Local restaurant in Royal Oak, MI has Founders Harvest Ale on tap. I asked my server if it was fresh and was told it is. However, I checked the Founders release calendar and saw this is due to come out until October. Any chance this bar has a fresh keg now?

FWIW, the restaurant in question seemed to have a pretty good tap list and from what I can tell it has a good reputation as far as beer.

    Thoughts?

I'd be a little skeptical, seeing as I haven't heard anything about its release for this year. I'm sure a quick e-mail to Founders would be the best way to find out. I hope it is a fresh batch though, it's my favorite harvest ale.

I too would be skeptical. Founders is normally very regimented about their releases.

Also, it's not on tap at Founders, which makes me believe even more that what I had was ooolllllddddd.

i would be a lot its old. biga is a fairly new place and dont think they would be getting any early release favors especialy with all the bigger beer bars in the area

Yeah, that was my thought process as well.
Not so good. Old and stale. Not having had Harvest Ale before, I wasn't totally sure it was old, but it certainly didn't taste like anything special.

Like I said, this is too bad...the food here was solid and the All Day IPA on tap was damn good.

This is an awesome beer. Had it for first time last year, drank a bunch of it that was a month or two old. Found some more that was about 3 months old, it was still good but had definitely fallen off. Year old stuff must be terrible. You should say something to management at that place.

New means new to them as in the restaurant recieved it from the distributor. That dist. Has tried to give me 9 month old ipa's 2 times before. I no longer do business thu them .

You can tell if harvest ale is fresh just by taste alone ( and I don't care if you ever had it before)
    It's a great beer / just a bit pricey

    Cheers

Are you talking keg wise? Because the most I've ever paid for Harvest Ale is $9.99 a four pack.

A lot of servers have "lied" to me before but they probably just don't know. Maybe it was just tapped so they figured it must be new.

    I think this is right.

Yeah, they hosed me on this. Like I said, it's too bad. I liked the place and will go back, in spite of this. Very good wings and solid pizza.
