Michael Tonsmeire of The Mad Fermentationist states it best when talking about brewing large scale with Modern Times.
If you go to Venn's facebook page you can learn all about him.

Apparently nutmegs first lineup has some infected brews but they included them anyways? I dunno, saw it on a Facebook review. Anyone else been there yet?

I was searching the Internets re Venn Brewing and saw that they are going to pour at the North Coast Nosh. Did I miss that they have a brewery and have all their fed and state approvals? Can't do that without them, at least not legally.

I seriously don't get how startup breweries without a TTB, let alone distribution license which you need even to be at a tasting event, are getting away with this. They cant seriously be pretending that everyone they are giving tastes to are their friends? That is one of the MN laws for home brewing and giving beer away.

Somehow Oude Oak is getting by with constantly cheating the system. Even though they know Fair State really well, they don't have their own equipment, facility, or proper license. I've seen then at so many tastings and even liquor stores pouring their homebrew.

A while back I was talking with one of the guys who started Bader Hill and I thought I remember him saying that when they were starting out, they tried pouring beer at an event without the proper licenses and ended up getting a fine.

I'm not an expert on this but I think until they are fully licensed they can give free samples of their then "homebrew test batches" out at certain venues. I'm not positive on where exactly they can do it at. I think that is more of the question.

Much has been taking place behind the scenes of this particular plan, and it looks like --with Growler sales and Sunday sales having passed the local city council-- a soft opening ought to be taking place, soon.

Here's a more in depth article in the local press, complete with a images (photos of the stainless, logo):

Was there during the soft opening and wasn't impressed. Figure I'll give them another try in a couple of months. I thought that serving an orange slice with the wheat beer was a little Blue Moon-ish.

Yeah right on. I had the double cheeseburger plain and it was one of the best burgers I've had. I'd put it number one in the Twin Cities. Beers were all very solid to excellent.

Close to where I live, but I never did care for the beer at 612, so their brewer might not cut it for me. I'm sure they'll do very well with taproom and local account sales (just like Excelsior has done).

The place needs more reviews on this site so I hope you add some. I need to get back there for sure.

I popped in a couple for the growlers I bought. The others I had as either samples or smaller offerings and they were all good but I don't want to review off that. I'll be back though and will take notes like in the olden days

Hopefully no BA's made the trip. I'd recommend giving them some time to get things dialed in. I'll leave it at that.

I wanted to, but I'm sick as a dog. Drinking is the last thing on my mind.

So, telling from experience or shooting from the hip, give them some time?

I was there last night. They were not prepared to be open. It will take some time to get the beers and service dialed in. Don't want to rip on them too much, especially from reading @Oneeighthcuban's piece about brewery openings. From what I understand the brewer is a fairly accomplished longtime homebrewer.

What I will say is that they were very busy last night. Easily 100+ people in the space (which interestingly enough a friend pointed out to me the sign above the door says maximum occupancy 49) so it was cramped and it took a long time to get a beer. I have to imagine that they made a lot of money that will go a long way towards keeping them afloat and improving.

I'd recommend waiting a month before you take the drive out there, especially if you're coming from the metro, as I imagine for most its a 30+ minute drive. I live in Jordan and it took us 15-20 minutes to get there.

I saw that yesterday and was amazed to see them get mentioned. I've only had 2 of their beers and both were really solid. Taproom is a bit further away from me so have not made the journey over yet but heard good things.
