Do any Chicago area places have any right now? Anyone know if they bottled a new batch at the pub?

Also any recommendations for other beers to try in the area right now?

    Cheers

I'm honestly not sure if that's meant to be helpful or a LMGTFY response. I'm very well aware of the beer menu and that Zombie Dust is currently listed, but who knows if they had 2 cases left after last night, sold them right away today and didn't update it. If they bottled a fresh batch a day or two ago, they would probably have quite a bit.

Yes, I could and will call them if need be. I figured someone has been to FFF's this week and might be able to answer these questions.

There's no way you should be expected to know this, especially if you post most often in the Midwest forum, but theburden works at FFF, so if it comes from him...

Though this makes me wonder, and this really has nothing to do with Zombie Dust so I'll apologize now for quasi-hijacking, but I wonder how different breweries approach BA. Theburden will post often enough -- Lincoln, too, from time to time; I know Moju will/can speak for Rev and Pipeworks chimes in when they have the time; and I've seen someone from Goose, too. Is it a matter of drawing straws to see who has to read/suffer through all of this for the good of the company? Or do they really want to embrace this site as a means of direct wholesaler/retailer/costumer interaction? And/or how many breweries just lurk away -- I can't recall seeing anything from Half Acre, for example. Um... anyway!

Back to ZD, and for the OP's benefit, as far as Chicago goes, it's really a crapshoot. Between Binnys and Whole Foods, I can't remember the last time I saw a 6-pack of anything from FFF on a shelf -- it never lasts long enough to be worth making shelf space, printing out a tag, etc etc (bombers are a different story). So if you walk in and don't see anything, just ask. It may take some extra time to flag someone down, have them go to the back... but at least you'll get what you're looking for. Well, might get. Week to week, it's kind of a crapshoot about what you can expect to see on shelves. Maybe Robert the Bruce and Jinx Proof -- maybe Gumballhead and Pride & Joy. Or maybe Zombie Dust. Aside from using BeerMenu's and/or cold-calling, it's hard/nearly impossible to say, "Go to this store on this day and you'll get Zombie Dust".

As for other beer worth seeking out, bombers from Revolution (esp. Double Fist if you like hoppy pale ales) and Pipeworks should be high on that list.

What is so hard about calling? I swear this forum makes beer folks lazier and lazier. You'd rather rely upon a semi-accurate recollection from a BA than call the Brewpub directly as to whether they have Zombie Dust at that very moment as well as how much remains.

If someone had been there this week on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, would they know if FFF had 2 cases there left after last night and sold them this morning? For that sort of detailed, up to the minute information it seems calling is your best bet as mentioned by others.

Nope, not at all. All I wanted to do was get a feel for whether or not there was a fresh batch bottled (which would also increase my chances of getting some) and if now is a good time to grab some other beers that I might not be aware of in the Chicago area. I would obviously be giving them a call before I drove across Chicago to Munster to see if they actually still have some, but it is at least a little bit helpful to know if they bottled some recently, or if any Chicago stores have some so I didn't make the trip if I didn't need to. I really didn't think these questions would get such a rise out of people. Just wanted to get some different beers.

You misunderstand me. I'm not asking for how many cases they have left. I was simply saying that if they had X amount of ZD as of last night, they wouldn't have taken it off of the beer menu, but if X was a very small number, chances they are already out and the beer menu might no longer be accurate. My actual question was if they bottled a new batch, which anybody who visited the Pub Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday would have had a chance at knowing that. That's it. I don't need to know how much exactly. I just wanted to know if there was a new batch and if people have any other beers they recommend in the Chicago area.

questions like this get a rise out of people because they are asked like on a weekly basis on the boards it seems.....you can pretty much assume that if you call the brewery and they have some, it's fresh....if you find it in a liquor store, it's fresh....it doesn't stay on shelves or in the brewery long enough to get old.....it's cheaper to get it at the brewery, they update their site regularly....if it's on the website, go buy it. cheers!!

They brew it all the time. Call, or don't, and go... Or don't.

Or just drink any other medium bodied, well hopped IPA.

If you would like some Chicago beer recommendations, here is a good recent post. Half Acre, Pipeworks and Revolution are all good places to start. I'm sure others can add more

Picked up a 6 pack at Lush last night (on Chicago and like a quarter mile east of ashland on north side). They seemed to have several more, though they are stocked as singles at 2.25 apiece.

I didn't read through this entire thread, but just responding to the one remark. We're beer geeks (BA & Ratebeer) long before we were professionally brewing, so no, no1 at our camp draws straws, we read the forums daily because BA & Ratebeer is what we've been doing for the past 9 years... and we always chime to the forums just like we were doing long before we were brewing. We're not embracing forum posts for marketing sake, we're just posting normally like we did before... but maybe posting with a bit more relavant purpose now with regards to our own brewery ;-) We post comfortably on these forums because we're used to doing so, conversationally, just like we would before we had a brewery. Maybe that's the difference with other breweries. If you aren't a regular rater/poster then your posts might come off somewhat contrived mixed amongst other regulars.
