It's highly likely that those people who talk up this place just don't know what good beer is......yet. Go with your own judgement and stay away from this place, or start telling them about your perceptions if you haven't already. If they can't get it right after 1-1/2 years, they may not be around much longer otherwise. (Especially after the misinformed figure it out and they stay away.)

Jai Alai is so varied batch to batch. I have had cases that varied from can to can from the same six pack. Some are malt bombs and some are fruity good. I stopped buying this beer. Too much of a gamble.

    Enjoy

Still not seeing any evidence that this is a "mindset" here. As for the Two Hearted strawman, that one left the room before you could get your matches out of your pocket:

Two Hearted Ale - Bell's Brewery, Inc.
    BA SCORE - 95 (world-class)
    THE BROS - 90 (outstanding)

Just searching "kopi luwak" comes up with 10 beers...and that's just the one's that put it in the name. Biggest name is probably AleSmith Speedway Stout - Kopi Luwak. I've tried the coffee in Indonesia...its okay, but certainly not worth $40 a cup (I didn't pay for it).

Yes, I KNOW it's a good IPA. I'm talking about people who call anything that isn't a HT clone "meh"

Brunch Weasel is pretty outstanding and not too difficult to get a hold of in the UK or overly pricey (by Mikeller standards anyway)

I'm not sure if I'm 100% getting the question here but I'm more than happy to drink a lower abv solid beer thats not mind blowing all day long. Although after I get a bit of a buzz in I generally start switching it up and will take a shining to some BA stout, lambic etc. based on my mood at that time.
PunkIPA isnt the most exciting beer for me nowadays, but I still drink a shedload of it and enjoy every sip.

Just go by your own palate, it is all that matters. I like ketchup with scrambled eggs, go figure. Well crafted, true to style( sometimes) classic brews will stand the test of time. Pilsner, as mentioned, no hiding flaws there. In MA we have Notch session pils, really nice and to style. I also like Harpoon IPA, great balance and taste. Not every brew has to slap you in the face and attack your taste buds. I would not call either of these ordinary. YRMV

This thread reminds me of the sixer of Great Lakes Elliot Ness I just bought. Ordinary amber lager... and just perfect.

Were they fresh? IPAs and sometimes Stouts can fall way off if they have been shipped, especially under the conditions they face on a trip to Asia.

This is the 800th "beer that didn't live up to expectation" thread, just with a different name.

I like straight up beers that are good for the style category.

What I'm really getting tired of is places adding a whole bunch of things (fruits, juices, this spice, that spice, kitchen sink) to beers and they still aren't any good.

Don't really care what you add. If the base isn't good and can't stand alone, neither will any number of additions.

With that said, I have two breweries in my town. I try to support the beers there that I like.

IPAs and DIPAs. A bigger fan of single IPAs. I haven't had the NE stuff, or the Pliny's of the world. I've had lots and lots of IPAs, mostly the west coast 'style'. Clear, 60-100 IBUs, usually some combination of pine/citrus/dank are the main take-away. And I find that while I like almost all of them, they are much more alike than different. So I'm kind of re-thinking the whole ticking thing. Maybe I'll do a little more reading and start to try to, not necessarily just look for whalez, but be a little more selective when it comes to spending my money on them.

I had a Uinta Yard Sale Winter Lager yesterday. 4% ABV, simply, perfectly ordinary, and exactly what I wanted to drink at the moment. Ordinary can hit the spot, too.
