"Let's pander to women" is usually a bad marketing ploy because it comes from an insincere place. Of course, all marketing comes from a certain level of insincerity, but when your campaign goal becomes to interest a particular demographic that has heretofore been standoffish with you, unless you're really, really, really good, you usually end up pissing off other demographics that already consider you a good product and create a mediocre, sometimes cringeworthy message designed around what you think your new target demo wants/thinks.

Maybe macro breweries will take a deep, introspective, thoughtful approach to expanding their customer base to be more inclusive towards women. I doubt it.

If we women avoided or boycotted every product that used our bodies and sexuality to sell things, we wouldn't be able to buy a damn thing. That said, hooray to companies who realize that they can make more money talking to women instead of just using the same hackneyed T&A desgined to appeal to only half the population (actually, I think you dudes, at least in the U.S., are only 49%).

Speaking as a woman (I even have the avatar to prove it), I personally couldn't give less of a shit about beer commercials. I don't drink (most) macro beers because they taste shitty. It has nothing to do with their "sexist" commercials. I would only start drinking more of it if they would make it taste better! Honestly though, both genders are sexualized to sell products, it's just more obvious when it happens to women. It's just a fact of life that sex sells and beautiful people will always be used to sell things, it doesn't offend me in the slightest.

As far as women's tastes...I'm into all sorts of things women "shouldn't" like. Traditional tattoos, metal, craft beer...whatever, it doesn't bother me if most of my interests are dominated by men! My boyfriend is always joking about how when it comes to alcohol, we're very opposite of the stereotypes: he likes fruity beer and tropical flavored spirits, I like scotch and beer. I can only speak for myself and not for women as a whole, but I drink everything from stouts to DIPA's, although anything really hop forward was hard to get into for a while.

As "sexist" as the commercials might be, I think it's worth noting that the entire beer community has been really welcoming to me and I've never felt like I was being patronized for my gender. The actual people involved in the community are way more important to me than the guys in suits trying to figure out how to advertise their product.

I was thinking more about above average women playing the greatest game of billiards ever with below average men.

That doesn't sound like a very good commercial at all. What happened to the frogs? I miss the frogs.

I think the book club one might have been my favorite. I think it was Bud Light.

Actually, I was thinking how truly cringe-worthy the acting by the guy was... it was a most amateurish commercial... What happened to AB's marketing/production department? That was awful!

I'm not so old (?), but I well remember separate water fountains and movie entrances for different races. I still have friends that are openly bigoted, and I tell them to stop it. Women have been marginalized since before hunting and gathering days, and it completely sucks. I have always had more women friends than men, because I like them more, they are more honest, smarter and more reliable, and politically they know how to deal with the good and the bad men. I learned so much from my daughter, as she helped us nurture her younger brother. Change is slow and things are improving, but there are "issues" that will always need our culture's deepest attention. Beer advertising is just comical, and I leave it at that!

Yes you are! (At least, going by SC in my childhood...) I do remember that, but just barely. It had all disappeared by the time I was in my teens. An I AM so old!
