nope, same recipe since the beginning, no variations on the recipe until this one.

minds are a very powerful thing, they can convince you of something that isnt there very easily.

Just because a common recipe is used does not necessarily mean there is no batch to batch variation. Beer is brewed using agricultural products (e.g., hops) and there is indeed crop variation.

    Cheers!

yep, i was merely saying the recipe didnt change, i know terroir and yeild can cause variations but their intention is to brew the same beer as always (until this most recent release)

I don't get it. This tastes basically the same as regular Enjoy By. Which is to say, it's good, but it's by no means similar to "NE style" IPAs in mouthfeel or taste. It still just tastes like a (very good) West Coast IPA.

No, just a tongue-in-cheek take on some of the absurdities with this phenomenon.

FWIW I am right there with you.

In all fairness beer appreciation is predicated upon a number of sensory inputs including visual input (i.e., appearance). It would be interesting to know if folks were to state they perceived a flavor/mouthfeel difference if they actually drank this beer blind, as in blindfolded.

    Cheers!

This has zero to do with the already incredible Unfiltered EB, but this damn Black IPA EB is off the charts!

    Carry on...

Maybe you should start a thread for that beer.

    Cheers!

Put me in the "softer-bitterness-more-hop-juiciness" camp. I'm a regular Enjoy By imbiber, so I feel pretty good about that analysis. Assuming I know what people mean about vegetal, as it relates to this beer, then I say definitely less so with this release.

For what it's worth, I had a couple pours on draft yesterday and if someone said I had ordered Trillium I wouldn't have doubted it for a second - it looked even more turbid than the Double Citra above or the DDH Scaled from January. I'm guessing Stone just has some content uniformity issues on this one, which really ends up complicating discussions about level of haze, impact on taste, etc.

Related to some other comments, I liked this far more than the regular Enjoy By so by my estimation they either develop/fall off differently over the lifetime of the beer or the haze significantly impacts the taste (or both I suppose).

^ What @kvgomps said. Personally, I just can't get onboard with the the whole it tastes the same as regular EB perspective. To me this unfiltered version is much juicier / tropical in taste and I dig the look. I believe I have purchased roughly 2 cases to date and now it is pretty much impossible to find around here. Sure wish it were available year round.

Being from Mass, have you ever kept a Whirlpool, Trillium beer..etc. for a few weeks? They tend to start clearing up. I think time is a HUGE factor with these beers, and can cause variability. Whether that variability is good or bad is up to the consumer and their personal tastes.

Definitely this -- had some Nighshift Morph cans that cleared up a TON after 1-1.5 months. Also quite a bit of sediment at the bottom (I tend to leave the last bit at the bottom of almost all beer these days, just out of habit. When I poured that last amount in for those older NS cans, there was a charge of sediment/gunk that rushed into the beer. Let's just say it didn't improve things at all.) I really enjoyed Morph, but I have to say it did fall off pretty hard over that time period.

Was the "fall off" hop aroma fade?

    Cheers!

It was everything -- aroma, taste, everything. It was sadly rather unpleasant.

I don't recall buying an ArrogantBastardPad though ...

More seriously, look at how many likes his comment got and it might make his action more understandable. Apple wants to sell a phone / computer / tablet to EVERYONE in the market for one. Stone, and all other craft breweries, are better off choosing their audience. When you try to be applicable to everyone, you're deeply relevant to no one. You're Sam Adams or, worse, Budweiser. Hazy IPAs sort of illustrate this. They're a bit polarizing. Polarization incites passion and allegiance.

Um, before #NewMoney? Do you even Pliny, bro?

Look at the IPA hall of fame ... Alpine, Alesmith, Stone, Russian River, Bells, 3 Floyds, Sierra Nevada, Firestone, Founders, Bear Republic, Lagunitas, Green Flash, Port, etc. Life before haze was a thing.

I'm pretty sure stone would like to sell a beer to EVERYONE in the market for a beer.

I enjoy drinking Sam Adams beer. I recently purchased a 6-pack of Rebel Grapefruit IPA and I think this beer is very good!

Please feel free to have a less than positive view of Sam Adams (Boston Beer Company) but I personally will not share that view.
