This mostly happens with me and dairy products. I buy it at the store and put it in the fridge. Later my wife asks why I bought fat free yogurt, icecream, cream, etc... I get really ticked. I was born in Wisconsin and I’m pretty sure all dairy products are supposed to have fricking fat in them. But beer? No, I always have grabbed what I wanted.

Jesus why are so many people on this site such humorless bores. The OP went into a store in a rush, saw a broadly similar color palate, and saw what he expected to see instead of what was actually there. This has nothing to do with reading comprehension and says nothing negative about the OP.

The kind of mistake he's referring to is a very interesting phenomenon that would broadly fall under the umbrella of something like innattentional blindness, where people overlook very obvious visual differences between stimuli (or miss their existence all together) when their attention is not fully focused: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inattentional_blindness

This could have been a fun thread about absent minded mistakes in the liquor aisle and instead half the thread is people trumpeting their superior visual (and reading?) acumen and bashing the OP for making a funny mistake. Lighten up folks.

The shoe ordeal doesn't surprise me after reading this post. What is 'the glass' and what do you mean by 'an easy drink'?

Didn't seem too complicated.....I didn't realize my mistake in what I picked up until it was into the glass. Poured into the glass. You know, to drink it. Maybe it is just me, but a cream ale is a pretty easy drink compared to an imperial porter.

I don't want to confuse you any further, but if you look at post 97, it is the same issue in reverse. That might indicate more of an issue with the packaging than the person. As far as the shoe thing goes, it was 20 years ago, so I'm ok with a mistake once every 20 years. Hopefully your string of not making mistakes still in tact.

You don't have to be new to find a particular thread worse than usual

Ironically, this is one of the most humorless posts in the thread.

Years ago I wanted to again try Port Brewing Older Viscosity, found it at half the price & twice the size, assumed I scored huge and loaded up on it...until I got home and realized it was Old Viscosity

-i don't consider myself a humorless bore or even a very serious person at all
-if you want the right beer, then pay attention
-ironically, you need to "lighten up" playing the white knight savior
-take your wikipedia back to middle school

caramel malt bomb, almost no hop bite. it was truly disgusting.

insane how much this beer evolves with time, going from a world class hop nuke to caramel water that almost got drain poured.

Right around holiday time I "tried" to pick up a Hardywood GBS for my mom-in-law. Picked up a Hardywood Farmhouse Pumpkin instead. Saw the mistake immediately when I got to my vehicle, came back in and swapped it out (both cost the same, which was... odd... to me)

I've tried it....something I can appreciate the craftsmanship of, but would never drink again.

Ive done it. I drink a lot of Becks. And i walked a couple blocks (drunk) to the store and picked up Heineken instead by accident. I realize this sounds stupid haha. But because of the amount of Becks i drink i can tell the difference even while i was drunk, between the very similar beers.

During a fuzzy night after some drinks with co-workers, I stopped by the nearby market to get something for the morning: Meant to get Stone Russian Imperial Stout, got 2 bombers of the Chai version instead and didn't discover until the next day when I was ready to enjoy..Did I drink it anyways? yes.
