Went to Great Notion on Saturday night with a friend, we got 4/5 of the beers they had available. I got Merry Dankster and the saison, Dankster was pretty good but my winner of the night was the saison. It reminded me a lot of something Upright would put out. I tried my friends stout, it reminded me more of a porter personally but was good, and the berliner was also done well, but I felt there was weird aftertaste, but maybe I'm crazy.

They really need to re-do the menu board above the board, with that printed out menu and the low light it's impossible to read and some areas of the bar maybe need a little more illumination. It was much more crowded than I ever saw mash tun, though maybe that was because it was a Saturday night.

Was also there Saturday. They were out of the Ripe and Juice Jr so I tried the DIPA. It was huge on the pineapple/tropical flavor. Almost like they poured pineapple juice right into the glass. I enjoyed it, but not something I could drink a ton of. Would be great in the summer though.

Does Great Notion do growler fills? A buddy offered to get me something this coming weekend.

I saw them filling a growler when I was there on Saturday. Not much for hoppy beers there right now though. Juice Jr. can be found around PDX.

Growler Guys had Juice Jr., but their keg kicked the other day. I'll keep looking for a place to send him to, he's only going to be in Portland briefly on Friday before heading to the coast.

Belmont has it on tap and does growler fills. Hop & Vine as well, but I don't think they fill.

edit: @SeaAle beat me to it!

At the rate it's selling I'm not sure it'll last until Friday, but it's worth checking the website Friday morning.

Yep, had them fill me a growler of Merry Dankster last Friday...$22. Delicious! Wanted to try their Ripe but they tapped out the night before. Juice Jr. was good but preffered Merry Dankster. Would also love to try their Juicebox.

$22 for 64 oz. of a DIPA isn't that out of line.

When I'm getting $10-15 fills of Hop Venom, I have to disagree.

I would agree with both of you.

$22 isn't hugely out of line, but it's definitely on the high side for Oregon. The only DIPA I can think of that I've seen more expensive than that, is PtE (when it's even available by the growler fill). Even Notorious is typically no more than $20 a fill down here in Eugene.

Most of the places I go to here in Eugene are either growler stations, or beer bars with a growler option. At least down here, if a growler is that expensive, you're typically looking at a wild ale, a barelywine or a BA RIS.

When I first saw the price for a growler of MD, my reaction was similar to dphi's ("hmmm.... that seems a bit high. I wonder why it's so expensive?").

Oregon has cheaper pours than Washington, I'll give you that.

Half Hitch and Head Shake are typically $20+, doesn't seem too out of line.

I've gotten Half Hitch for $15, haven't seen Head Shake available for growler fills so I'll take your word on that. Still, just because you can list one or two other beers that have been priced that high doesn't make $22 in line with typical pricing - I can go all day listing DIPAs that you can get for much less, especially straight from the source with no distribution costs factored in. It just seems like they're using NE pricing for their NE-style IPAs.

Where are you paying $20+ for half hitch? I've never seen it for over $20, and like dphi stated, it's usually priced in the $15 to $16 range. Head Shake is much more difficult to find, but the last time I saw it at a growler station, was at the Eugene Growler Guys some months ago. I picked up a crowler for $9.49 (as much as I love it, I can't drink 64 ounces of Head Shake), which means a growler was likely in the $17 to $18 range.

I generally agree with distantmantra that $22 isn't too out of line for a DIPA, but it's definitely priced at the higher end of the spectrum.

Agreed, sampling bias and all that. On the spectrum of DIPA growler pricing, I just see it on the high end, as opposed to an outlier. Pretty much what John says below.

Growler Guys has it on right now for $22, though I believe the last time I had a fill of it, it was around $18-$19, so who knows. Hop Venom is typically my go-to and that's around, as mentioned, $15.
