Just hit SD today and had no idea it was coming out. Sounds great and I'll have to pick some up asap!

Saw this at Greens in ATL today. Along with the Red Ale. Should have picked up a six. Will grab some this week.

weird, in the bay area we just got one I've never seen - a bitter chocolate oatmeal stout, 9%, in bombers. Thought maybe they'd hold off in the americano if they're releasing this one, but it sounds like it's already out, at least in SD.

That is part of the 20th Anniversary Encore series where they are reviving some of the best anniversary beers from years back. I believe Bitter Chocolate was the 12th anny beer.

I thought the Americano would also come in the mix 12er, but the new red IPA they came out with is in that. That Chocolate Oatmeal stout was ok, hope the Americano is better.

Having already tasted the 12th anniversary stout 2 years ago, having it again, knowing the quality of their IRS, then seeing this on shelves, I thought it was a no-brainer to buy 2 six-packs. I opened one of these last night and was disappointed with how thin and overly bitter it is. I guess these are going in the closet to open next winter

Agreed, thought it is a good beer fresh but the hops and coffee kind of overlapped and I couldn't separate the coffee from the hop bitterness. Cellaring the rest of my sixer unless I'm desperate for an aggressive dark beer before then.

Good idea then, but I tried it today with "thin and overly bitter" in mind and didn't get that at all. Yay for me.

17.99 for the six pack I just got. Wasn't expecting it to be that much with Ruination 2.0 at 12.99. I know xocoveza was $17 but That's on a different level to me, right?

Drinking it right now. More of a BIPA with espresso than a stout. Definitely worth it though

And much better than an $8 bomber

$13.99 here. I like it but I think the hops take away from the espresso. Still pretty good though.

I tasted this last night, it fell pretty far short for me. The guy who offered me a sip of his seemed kinda desperate to get other people to taste it and give approval, and now that I see he probably paid $15+ for it I can see why he wanted someone else to tell him it was good and he didn't waste his money. He could have spend that on a Sierra Nevada Snowpack and gotten double the bottles, including 3 much better coffee stouts.

I am really not cool with how this is priced. I think it should be 13.99 tops. 16.99 is just excessive.

I look at this as a discount from the 22-oz/bomber pricing structure that Stone used to do for these one-off or once per year releases. I paid $14.99 for a sixer, but even $16.99 per six pack I'd take over $7.99/bomber which they could have chosen to do a la Imperial Russian Stout. With the sixer you are paying less than 24 cents/ounce versus 36 cents/ounce for an $8 bomber.

Plus if you happen to have a store which allows for breaking up into singles, you are only put out around $3 for a 12-ounce bottle to try before investing in a 6-pack versus the more expensive bomber pricing.
