I had a pint of Real Ale Scots Gone Wild Sour Ale at Barley Swine in Austin this last Saturday. Wow, amazing stuff.

What's the story on this magical brew? I live in San Antonio and would like to buy a lot of it as soon as possible.

Haven't heard anything, but I'm guessing it's a Mysterium Verum where they barrel aged and introduced some sour bacteria to their Real Heavy, a Scotch Ale available as a Fall Seasonal. The BA version of Real Heavy was called The Highlander. Guess there can't be only one.

Thanks for the info, videofrog. The beer isn't even listed on their website, so it must be pretty limited.

Pity; I thought it was the best local sours I've had. But I'm eagerly anticipating Jester King's Funk Metal.

Growler fills? What else is on tap? I was thinking of driving down this evening from Dallas.

HomeField Grill grabbed a keg yesterday, but I think we may hang on to it and pour it at a beer dinner in September.

Great beer. I love it. Hay Merchant had it on. Petrol has it on today for their Back to School Party. Flying saucer downtown Houston has it on tomorrow I believe.

Be warned, growler fills of this will probably be expensive. I had a 4oz sniffer of this at draght house and it set me back 7 bucks. Image how much a growler fill would be. That said I think it's a mighty tasty brew, comparable to cascade bourbonic plague or old burnside highland ale.

Interesting, I had a 10oz pour of this at Oak St Draft House for $4.

To the best of my recollection, whenever I've had a Mysterium Verum at somewhere like Ginger Man or Zax's it's been around $8 a half pint, so a dollar an ounce. A standard growler fill would be $60+ at those prices if the bar will even do it. That would eat up around 9% of the keg (quarter bbl, 7.75 gall).

Currently on tap at Easy Tiger. $1 per oz as Omnigrits pointed out.

I was thinking they charged me $5 ($10 total for Wealth & Taste and Scots Gone Wild) at Oak St today - either way sounds like a solid deal compared to elsewhere. Great new release from Real Ale! And Oak St is really becoming a fantastic watering hole for Texas beer.

It was my first time there so I'm not sure how things work but I believe Sundays they discount Texas beers. And you're right, fantastic bar.

I seem to remember paying $7 for a 10oz pour of Kraken at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.

    Sooo good though.

Tried it today at Freetail. It wasn't necessarily bad, but I had a hard time finishing it. It kinda tasted like an infected barleywine, to be honest. Not really my thing.

    Next up "Imperium"
"Imperium is the second release in our new line of barrel refermented wild ales, though it is the first to feature wild yeast that is indigenous to the Hill Country. Our Lost Gold IPA was aged in American oak barrels for 6 months after being inoculated with a strain of wild yeast that was harvested from the skies surrounding the brewery. While the aroma hints at a subtle tartness, the flavor centers around a dry, funky, barnyard character that matches perfectly with the elevated hop level of this IPA."
