Well, MADD isn't a beer company. That would seem to be the distinction there.

While I hate to see Helen Mirren in a Bud commercial it is pretty unnecessary to call her names. She is a talented actress and I would put money on most people not knowing a 70 year old women who looks as good and carries herself the way she does. I am sure she viewed this as an anti-drunk driving spot and not an all out Bud commercial.

I expressed my regret for the name calling a couple posts ago. I stand by everything else.

If everything you say were true for all people all the time there would be no such laws in place.

I agree what BAC is somewhat arbitrary, and I think the complexity of the situation is often overlooked (as with many things; most people do not actually analyze things with any real depth). There are a multitude of factors to consider as to whether one should be driving or not. Hell, it doesn't even have to do with drugs or alcohol. Just sleep deprivation alone is easily enough to be unsafe. That, going on a slight tangent, is quite interesting. Why does one not need to be responsible for getting proper rest but they have to be responsible for alcohol? Sleep deprivation slows reaction time and can easily cause an accident. If people need to be accountable for what they do, shouldn't there be some consistency? (But then detecting that would be even more arbitrary than BAC)

Additionally, to expand on the original point. If one is sleep deprived, they could have one or two beverages and easily be under the legal limit. That said, does that make it safe for them to drive? BAC just seems far too arbitrary. If I'm well rested and have had a hearty meal, I can easily drive after drinking a few brews. On the other hand, if I haven't eaten that day and haven't had sufficient sleep, even one or two low ABV brews could make me unsuitable to drive.

A bit of rambling here, but the main point from this is that it is a complex situation. IMO, there are plenty of scenarios that involve neither drugs nor alcohol, and that person should still not be driving.

She was probably, like I was, brought up to consider drinking from a bottle to be slovenly and ill-mannered.

It would suprise me to know that people in the UK love Budweiser.

I am uncertain of what specifically constitutes "love" but Budweiser is on the list of top 10 most popular (best selling) beers in the UK.

    Cheers!

I will kindly say I am VERY disciplined with having ONLY one beer during work days with my meal and that is it for the night...I very much advocate that less is greater and keeps my palate fresh! :grinning:

Michael Jackson was forced to do so on his interview excursion with Fritz Maytag to the Anchor hop farm. The uncomfortable motion of him drinking from the bottle in that episode of The Beer Hunter is priceless. :grinning:

In discussions like this people always bring up other factors in driving impairment as some form of counter-argument to enforcing BAC limits, but these are all red herrings. The fact is there is an empirically quantifiable risk associated with driving a vehicle at a certain BAC, regardless of other factors, and therefore discussing those other factors is irrelevant to drunk driving, specifically. I grant those other factors are similar and interesting subjects, but they aren't reasons to disregard the proven risks of drunk driving.

In addition there is a known, validated measurement device with limits of accuracy that have stood up in court. (So far as I've heard there is not yet an adquate measure of several other things such as sleep deprivation, etc.)
