Pretty much anything from Lost Abbey. They were selling bottles of cable car for $85 a bottle retail and you had to buy a ticket to a brunch to be able to pay $85 a bottle and the brunch alone was over $100. Any time they have a release their bottles cost $45 each which is absurd, especially given the fact that they usually produce a couple thousand bottles for each batch. I don't plan on buying Veritas again like I have in previous years or any other beer from them with the exception of ddg and maybe cfh. Say what you will about Alpine teaming up with green flash, but they don't bend their customers over a barrel with no lube like many of the SD breweries do, Alesmith and Modern Times included.

Not always just straight being able to afford it, but when you see a beer that you once enjoyed selling for double on the shelves, its disapointing. And quite frankly its more of a quality thing, is the beer really worth the price?

Allagash really comes to mind here for me.
Bottles that used to be anywhere $10-15 are now pushing 20-25. I highly doubt any of their beers are worth that, and I'm not going to drop $25 to find out.

Yes DFH certainly does it well in quality for price. Their higher ABVs (Burton Baton, Palo Santo etc.) and very well crafted brews in 12oz 4 packs for <$15 most places I see, and their super big 18% brews usually go for $10 a 12oz bottle (WWS, D'Extra, Higher Math, Fort, 120min etc). All of that is well worth the value/quality ratio IMO.

Seems Stillwater is quite overpriced for the quality they do. Can't say I've really liked much by them, especially for what they charge.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I wish that the price of everything would go up, not just beer. I am looking forward to being impoverished in my retirement years...

    Nah
. Hopslam is still great. It's still a classic. And it's pricey but not too far out of line for other fantastic IIPAs in the same class. Enjoy By, New Glarus Scream and Revolution Unsessionable are all in the $15-17 range per 6 pack. Hopslam is $20 here. It's not "better" than the others, but I don't mind the splurge on a couple 6 packs once a year.

Don't buy things you cant afford or make more money. If you are doing anything that might affect retirement negatively, you are doing it wrong. If I had to think, before spending money on a hobby, if I was impacting my financial standing...I wouldnt partake in that hobby anymore.

I just don't understand how anything BCBS or variants are considered overpriced in comparison to quality, proven status and price compared to all others in the same style. Rookies...

Sculpin. Why is it $14? The Big Eye is just as good. Might as well bypass and get the Dorado.

Rogue Dead Guy. It's a good helles. Why was that EVER priced over $10 a six?

Avery Raja. Why is that $12 for a four pack? An 8% IIPA! That one I keep buying though.

This isn't a matter of affordability its a matter of price gouging.

Is beer a necessity? Otherwise you don't know what gouging means. The fact that certain things sell out so quickly means breweries aren't charging enough. I would love for them to price based on demand.

The Bruery and Mikkeller I get, especially Mikkeller. I haven't bought one of his beers in Devereaux years based solely on price per ounce. I don't get it; most bottle shops have tons of it sitting around. And the Bruery seems to have halted all production of non-BA beers. I went to the brewery itself recently and was let down...nothing to drink but 15% beers. Bottle Logic is the way to go, but I digress...

Lagunitas though? It's so cheap! Their bombers are usually $5 and their six packs are $10 - $13/14. Which beers are you referring to?

It's a colloquial use of the word. Everyone knows what it means when people use it like that. I really wish people would stop nerding out every time the word is used like that.

50/50 Eclipse comes to mind first. I had the coffee and Woodford variants this year and, while they were excellent, they in no way merit the $30+ price tag. I think it shows a little too because there are a few shops near me that have multiple variants still sitting on shelves.

Easy big guy - who said anything about being wealthy. My point is that threads like these are really just so people can shit on world class beers and call them overpriced. To say most beers from places like the Bruery aren't worth the money is laughable. I realize that everyone's entitled to an opinion, but when people say $10 or $11 bombers are outrageosly overpriced, it might be time for a new hobby.

I take it reading comprehension is not your strong suit. The thread is about non-world class beers charging like they are. (Apart from the incomprehensible responses, e.g. Laguintas is overpriced and such nonsense.) Not everyone agrees on what "world class" even means. And, to answer your question, I did.

Price gouging is a pejorative term referring to when a seller spikes the prices of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair, and is considered exploitative, potentially to an unethical extent.

Also read the title of the thread, all I was saying is that KBS is overpriced and overvalued. People run around store to store for a 1 bottle limit that costs 7$ for a 12 oz. There is no drama here, we are simply having a discussion. If you have no input other than how poor you think we are or that we are full of drama, keep it to yourself.
