on tap i thought that is was one of the best batches fresh thus far. in the bottle, might be a different story - haven't had one yet. that being said, I am enjoying an butte xx right now, which is holding up quite nicely.

Wasn't a fan of this year's. I liked 20-22 quite a bit, 23 was okay but the orange was a little weird for me.

Had XX side by side with 24 a few days ago... such a difference the age put on it. Hope XXIV turns out that nice.

Agreed. A little too heavy on the dates and figs but the mouthfeel was better than year's past when this fresh IMO. Hopefully age will sort some of this out...not likely though.

I shared a bottle of 24 with a few people last night. We all agreed that it's pretty damn tasty fresh. I thought that this one is already very well balanced. I figure the bourbon will fade with age and the dates/figs will come out more. I'm personally thinking I'll like this one fresh better than aged but I'm saving at least one to see how it changes.

is it bourbon barrel aged? i looked all over the bottle and didn't find any info about that and the abyss bottles usually state what % is barrel aged in what type of barrels.

I've thought every iteration of the series got noticeably better with some age.

I had it on tap Saturday night. If the bottled version is comparable then you can ignore the best after date.

"You people" are so fortunate to have this in abundance. I've been searching everywhere in South Texas for it and I finally got one bottle :-( I want to drink it so bad!

I feel the same way about it on tap, damn good, and luckily living on the west coast the both of us live in Deschutes country which has kept me from being tempted to crack the bottles I have.

Much agreed. It couldn't be more prime based on the tap version, but I'm hearing a lot of reports of alcohol heat from bottles. Curious.

I'm one to kinda like the "best after" date that Deschutes does, but this time if you only have one bottle then I say drink it. I'm lucky enough to have a few extras but the bottle I had the other night was so good. I couldn't really tell what age would do to this beer but right now it's excellent. Drink up!

It doesn't say that anywhere on the bottle or on the Deschutes website. XVIII didn't say that either. People assume just because XX and XXI were barrel aged that all the anniversary beers are. I got no whiskey or barrel flavors whatsoever from the bottle I had.

According to the email the Bros got from the brewery it was aged in bourbon barrels...

Not a whole lot of bourbon flavor but it's there. With some age it should fade to the point where it's barely noticeable.

I dunno, just drank a XXIII on Sat. night, the bourbon seemed bigger a year later than it was when it was fresh. Of course when the peppers and citrus aren't as prevalent, other things can stand out a little more.

IMHO, the slight bourbon mouthfeel is really good. If I wanted a hot bourbon mouthfeel, I'd just go take out a second mortgage and get some King Henry

Now it's made me doubt opening the bottle :/ I have no doubts I'll still think it's amazing but if it's fig heavy I would rather wait till it's not 90+ degrees out.
