Advice for BJCP tasting exam

    LOL. I don't think it's a waste of time, and it does help in providing a common language for the stated purpose of the guidelines, which is judging homebrew.
    There was, in fact, a lot of very good advice in this thread.

    But two very important things that were not mentioned in the various replies were:
    1) Remember that the guidelines (which make up the heart of the BJCP) are designed for homebrew competitions and have very little relevance (if any) outside of the arena of amateur competitions (owing to some questionable parameters and definitions therein) . That fact is all too often overlooked by beer enthusiasts.
    and
    2) Don't take any of it too seriously. It's only beer. :wink:

    Well results came out yesterday, I passed the exam and got the "Recognized" rank. Thanks everyone for the tips and advice. Now I need to find some competitions to start earning points.

    Practice, you can always retake and move up if you score higher.
