Am I the only one who gets annoyed with all the local bottle shops who post pictures of all the new beer they got delivered, on Facebook & Instagram... early afternoon while majority of the local/loyal customers are at work and will never have a chance to get any of the limited releases.

This happens to me like every week, even though I know truck schedules/stops and score a lot on during my lunch break there are always bottles I miss out on.

(no offense to those who work nights and are lucky enough to get there hands on everything)

Nope, not annoyed - they post the pictures when the beer arrives, first come gets it... I used to work around the corner from my local shop and would sometimes be able to grab some in the afternoon. Now I almost never can go shopping until after the kids are in bed, I miss out on some but so it goes.

Local shop here posts on social media and 90% of the stuff they allow hold requests over social media if you pick up within a couple days. I love it.

The 10% is first come first serve for super limited stuff, but they try to be fair with those releases. Maybe just lucky with good stores here in Cincy.

I dont get annoyed, many bottle shops do 4 and 5 pm release, or do a morning and afternoon release , some times you get lucky like you stated and you get some on your lunch break, we would all like to be at every release but im happy with the one i make it to.

They post it when they get it. First come first serve is the only fair way and I appreciate knowing what they have.

On the flip side, sometimes I work at night. Normally I sleep in the evening when I do that, so knowing about new arrivals earlier in the day is better.

Nothing is going to be perfect.

Yeah, one of the stores with the best selection in Montreal does this. Since i don't live on the island, pretty much guarantees i won't get any limited releases.

This can be somewhat annoying, but I also work in IT, so an afternoon working remote is acceptable. I try not to abuse it, but I don't feel awful about cutting out early for something I really want.

If I ran a beer store and my job was to sell beer, I would as quickly as possible let potential customers know about something they might be excited to buy....

How do you arrive at the conclusion that the majority of local AND loyal customers work during the day?

Nope, it can irritate me as well. Had it happen at one shop a month or so ago for something I had been calling for and asking about each time I stopped in for a week or two - had my number taken down for a call should it show up. Up went the post (no call), I called immediately and asked for it to be held and I'd be there in an hour. Got there (after leaving work a bit early even) to find it was all gone because they weren't allowed to hold it. They used to, they held KBS for me last year even.

Bright side, I commented on FB, got some likes and they acknowledged and have more or less stopped.

I follow other shops I don't frequent though, because the posts let me know what is hitting and to be on the lookout for - so that doesn't bother me since I don't shop there. Does seem like a lot of places post things like that to say "look how cool we are!" which definitely helps bring new business/chasers/mules but doesn't really serve the regulars unless they're somehow inb4 the posts.

Edit: I think the only part that bothers me is the changing rules - going from "we do holds" to "we don't do holds" or "we'll call you" to "we won't call you" etc. No one is entitled to a beer over another person but just gimmie the rules so I can play.

Guess I am lucky that I have established a relationship with my local bottle shop and they will hold bottles for me.

I have all my (beer nerd, super)customers email addresses. I email them when I get BCBS,KBS other cool rare allocated beers. I never post "Just in" unless I have a ton of it. For example Nugget Nectar.

If you are so annoyed with it, maybe not check facebook and instagram all day long? It might reduce your sense of entitlement.

Yes, the hours of your job are the bottle shop's fault. Some of the threads on this site...

    No.
As a store manager who does exactly what you are describing, I post what we get, when we get it, and will gladly hold things for 24 hours if called and I always hold enough aside for my best customers. We want all of our customers to be up to date, and with ultra limited releases we always hold some aside for the 2nd half of the day so people like you are able to get it when you get off of work. No one is entitled to special treatment just because you can't get off of work to go buy beer, that's kind of obnoxious in and of itself. If you know your store's delivery days and times and are that concerned with getting your hands on beer, maybe you should ask for those days off from work so you don't miss out, although from my POV it would be stupid to take days off from work to spend money, but that's just my 2 cents. Get in good with the beer manager, get his or her email/phone and send them a text or email to see if they can hold it aside for you. I give all of my customers my business card that has both on it, and I field texts and emails on delivery days every week to hold items for those people. It's not hard, you just need to take your own initiative and call or text or email.

Appriciate all the feedback and opinions, I know there is no perfect solution here. Although I do like JratBones comment.
I spends a hundreds of dollars and a lot of time hunting down beers and am very loyal to the shops I go to. Although I am lucky enough to get the occasional "hold" or show up on my lunch break when the truck arrives, it's bothering when all the bottles are snatched up by the time I get there by those sitting around all day with nothing to do spending mommy and daddy's money.

If you are a good customer and establish a good relationship with your local store they will remember you and hold the super limited stuff most good bottle shops take care of their very best customers.
