Greetings fellow explorers and navigators of new beer frontiers! I hope this message finds you anticipating the joy of a new day and a new beer in your glass.

I'm officially done with summer although it's been an oppressive week here in Central OH. Spent yesterday afternoon at the pool and spent the evening trying to summon cool Autumn breezes with the sampling of my first Sam Adams Octoberfest of the season.

I did not succumb to the pressure of buying ST Pumpking earlier in the week at my local Whole Foods but I probably should have. Word on the street is that it sold crazy fast.

Whatever you plan on sampling today if you find something NEW please TELL us about it. Please post your review or a very good description and a pic (if so inclined) to virtually "share" a pint with all your NBS brothers and sisters on this fine day. Please, no "what's in my fridge", or "it was good" posts.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Hope y'all have a great day!

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

    Thanks for the compliment!

I bought the sixer for $9....ouch, at the store I usually put first on my list of stores to go(he brings in more of the "unusual" stuff that others don't) to but his prices are getting on the ridiculous side.:slight_frown: Anywho, I preferred Hoptober when it was a Golden Ale.

Enjoying a beautiful Sunday in SE Michigan. After church, did some fantasy football prep with coffee. Followed it up with my first Southern Tier Jahva stout while making some bacon, hash browns and eggs. Excellent coffee stout, a bit on the sweet side (surprise for ST) but great flavor and mouthfeel. Hopefully my Tigers can win the rubber game today against the Angels. Looking forward to the release of FBS to make a Sunday brunch tradition. Cheers and have a great week!

Enjoying my first ever Surly Coffee Bender, decided to start my day with it as opposed to ending with it. Obtained recently in a trade with Durb777. I'm really loving this beer, tons of coffee flavor yet subtle....haha if that makes any sense. A lot of coffee beers I've had are so over the top with coffee but this is awesome, totally nails it. I wish we got Surly out here in Seattle, I had Furious for the first time a few days ago and it was incredible.

    New APA Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,

A bit gloomy, but not holding much rain, unfortunately. If it's gonna' be cloudy as least give us the benefit of the water. Anyway, was "up north", as we say in these parts, and trees are starting to show some color changes. Not all, mind you, but enough to know the end of summer is close upon us. Hearkens me to marzens and english ales.

But that's not where I'm going today. Instead with a have a fine selection from a local brewery and certainly a brewery situated in one of the smallest communities to hold such an establishment. Although noted above as an APA, it's really more of a nicely hopped session beer, coming in at a 4.2% abv. A nicely hopped beer with good flavor and soft bitterness.

Best to all this week and the official last week of summer.

My contribution to NBS is a beer that is getting some attention from the beer geeks. A beer I am sure will be much more enjoyable with a little age on it as I did not enjoy it fresh as much as the previous anniversary beers. Black Butte XXIV:

Good afternoon all! It's an overcast rainy kinda day here in central Illinois. Good day to get caught up on some house cleaning and beer ticking. First off today I have an Imperial Porter from Long Trail.

While taking notes, my first impression is WOW! Rich velvety smoothness. Dark roasted chocolate bittterness with caramel, raisins, hints of orange rind and a touch of mint. The head speaks for it's self, great staying power and loads of spider web lacing.

    ***American Strong Ale!!!

Another anniversary ale from Surly and another, for me, disappointing brew for my palate. You like/love it? Cool. I love their every day beers and special releases but they all seem to come out in cans. I think I'll stick with them.

Greetings fellow NBSers! A partly cloudy day here in the Fourth Corner, the sun keeps trying to peek through and there's a nice little breeze. I spent a couple hours earlier today working at one of my local breweries tearing down and cleaning up after the local rugby club had a luau as a fundraiser in the beer garden yesterday. I'm still enjoying the afterglow of seeing Felix's perfect game last week. even though baseball is winding down and the black hole that is the NFL is just around the corner. My first submission for your consideration is a green tea golden ale from a regional brewery that I generally like: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1387/84792 , a bit different, but nice.

New American Saison Sunday (week 392)

Greetings NBS'ers, a glorious day of outdoor beer enjoyment, etc., even sneaked in a cigar, but haven't been this wowwwwed by a beer and brewery in a bit. Tired Hands is their name, folks, and if this is first you hear, guaranteed it won't be last. Hope you too are enjoying a fine American Beer in your glass right now. Cheers!

well the sun can't decide if it wants to come out or not, so i'm gonna stick with stouts today. I wish it were a little thicker, seems kinda thin to me. other than that you can taste the lactic, almost too sour for a milk stout in my opinion. and there is a thin layer of sediment on the bottom of the glass that i've never seen in a milk stout before. all in all it's pretty darn good.

As I'm using the Wifi at the local beer store, it only seemed right that I grab another pint, a decent little brew from a brewery over on the Dry Side of my state. BTW, all my best thought to the folks having to deal with the huge wildfires over on the East side the last couple of weeks. If we had any, I'd gladly send ya some of our rain. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/11212/53184

    New American IPA Sunday

Just got back from sweating it out at a flag football game today.

This one from Two Brothers was a miss for me: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/689/49814/?ba=mattcrill

I wanted to like it but it just tasted old and the hops didn't "pop" for me.

There's always a new beer and there's always next Sunday....

Stone Levitation for me. Pretty new to Texas as far as I know. Great malty taste and dry. This Stone offering will fit in nicely with our Texas summers. I hope Stone sends more of their lower ABV offerings this way (if they have them).

    Cheers!
