I’ll start: Would you rather go to a beer bar/brewery with other beer folks for a 10 ounce pour of a super rare beer, or spend the evening at home with a six-pack (4-pack, bomber, etc) of something you’ve had before and enjoyed?

Call me a homebody, but I'd much rather relax at home with something I've had before and enjoyed. Don't get me wrong: I dig going out for the odd special release/tapping and have on several occasions (some quite recently), but the latter sounds more my speed.

Ooooh a fun topic. I would choose to stay home IF I got to be around other people also..otherwise I'm not sure really..part of the fun is talking about it with/to other people or just seeing who likes what!

I'm assuming I'd get to try more beer than just that 10 oz pour, correct?

I'm personally averse to large crowds and like to drink most of my beer in the comfort of my own home. But then again I like trying new beers, visiting good beer establishments and spending time with people who share my enthusiasm for the thing. So I'm gonna choose the former.

Good question. I'd probably take the opportunity to go out and get some of that "Whalez lyfe yo" as I am a mostly social drinker and really enjoy trying new beers.

I thought they were supposed to be two terrible choices.

Ex: Would you rather beer bong 2 Sam Adams Triple Bocks, or do a 20 second Southern Tier Creme Brulee keg stand?

My personal favorite option? A rare beer shared with friends around the bonfire!

I vote for the Triple Bocks, 20 seconds of a Creme Brulee keg stand would give me diatbeetus.

My favorite styles aren't super rare so I would choose to stay home as far as the beer goes. But I do, on occasion, venture out to bottle releases and when my local bar has something I can't get on tap. Most times I am happy to stay home with my girl and the dogs.

Yes, I should specify, staying at home does not mean drinking alone. Fill the house with whomever you'd like - friends, family, SO, pets, etc.

Basically, this means: Would you rather die or die? Hmm, interesting...

Possibly. I've been to more than one or two tap takeovers, special releases, etc, where you're only allowed one 10 ounce during a specific period - one per hour or something like that to ensure everyone gets a shot. I've also been to special tappings where I've finished my 10 or 12 ounce pour only to find the keg has blown, etc.

    I'd vomit regardless.

I drink at home enough, so I like the occasional treat of going out. Even if it is crowded and loud, it is extra atmosphere.

50/50. If I'm rating, snapping pics, taking unusually long sniffs of beer....I'm, 1) being rude to my guests, and, 2) they think I'm weird as hell! Which, I probably am, except to the people on this forum.

Home for me....maybe when I was in my 20s I'd dig going out for something rare, and doing some people watching...not so much anymore

Agreed on the atmosphere thing. There's a brewpub in my town that's just so-so (pretty solid IPA, which they just started canning, and one or two other decent beers) but the wife and I rarely post-up on a Friday or Saturday for drinks, pub food, etc. We decided to give the place another whirl this Friday after work, which got me thinking about how I'd almost prefer to stay in and drink something I know is good, even if the atmosphere of being out at a bar is worth it.

This is a tough one for me as I'm not super huge into the "rare" beer tappings, mostly because of the assured cluster. However, I work from a home office everyday so I'm always looking for a reason to get out, especially if it involves good beer. In the above scenario, I'd still opt to stay home with a bomber of something I enjoy.

Change "10 ounce pour of a super rare beer" to "latest local brewery release party at [insert whatever bar]" and I'm likely there instead.
