I just had Coffee Okie in hand until I saw it was $16 for a 12 ounce bottle. That sucks because I wanted to try it but not worth alternatives I can get for those $$$.

    It was very underwhelming IMO.

I just heard the Rye and Cognac Abyss were retailing for $33 a bottle. I wanted to take a **** shower after I heard that.

Yeah man. I was fortunate enough to try it on tap at the brewery and omg I was blown away. I had 2 week old bottles before and it was not even close to 1-day old PtE.

They're $25 here, but I'd honestly easily buy more if I had the budget for it.

Since I started running a graph of ratings vs. cost/oz, Double Bastard in the Rye would have to have the dubious distinction of being the most overpriced per my rating - $ 1.49/oz and a rating of 3.8. My average for rating beers since joining BA is 3.62 and since I've rated beers at 4.46 that have had cost only $ 0.14/oz, I'd have to say that more expensive is not always better.

I would tend to agree that some Surly 4pk pints are borderline overpriced. Abrasive, this year at least IMO, wasn't worth the price tag of $17.99. However, I feel that Wet, Todd the Axe Man and Blakkr at that price were all justified.

Could you find a way to share this? I would be very interested to see it. Maybe a google doc?

If you don't like the beer that's one thing but a 10% DIPA @ ~$18/sixer isn't overpriced. It's not the cheapest on the market but it's pretty much inline with most other DIPAs and far less than most DIPA bombers ($/oz).

    $18/sixer = $.25/oz
    $.25 x 22oz = $5.50 bomber

What DIPAs do you guys drink that are significantly less than $.25/oz?

Hopslam. My bro-in-law just sent me this pic. I zoomed in to see it's $22 a six pack. Jeez!

Dollar per ounce in Sixers as a tried and true hyped beer? "I remember my first beer."

Would you rather them sell their 10% DIPA in bombers for $8.99+? Well then I'd like to nominate every IPA / DIPA from Knee Deep.

I think the more appropriate/helpful title or sentiment for a thread like this might be: what beers do you think are and aren't worth the price or effort to track it down. That's information that I think might be helpful to people deciding whether or not to lay down the cash for an expensive beer or chase it. Instead these threads turn quickly into certain people whining about a few dollars which is annoying. If a beer was truly overpriced it would mean it's priced too high to sell and if that were true than either they would have to lower the price or stop making the beer.

As far as some breweries needing to increase prices on beers that don't sit at all . . . personally I'd rather be able to lay down a few extra dollars to get a sought after beer than wait in a huge line or chase a truck but I get why some people might prefer spending their time instead of money(or maybe enjoy the hunt) and why some breweries might want to Have a demand that is much higher than the supply to gain some additional buzz around their brand.

I always pass up the bottles too. But on a trip to Portland I visited their barrel house tasting room. For a more reasonable price I got to sip and taste several of their many beers, some tantalizing, some ghastly, but it made for a memorable bike ride and cleared my palate later at Big Head.

Alright in response to everyone's inquiry about why I said Lagunitas. You're all right, Lagunitas is not overpriced and offers good value for money. I had a few drinks that night and I was thinking of another brewery and mistakenly typed Lagunitas. I was thinking of Ballast Point, but got it confused. My bad. Please accept this beer Pr0n to repay my debt.
