I remember liking their hefe quite a bit... Along with the nitro stout. I have not been there in a long time (Ohio City... Meh), but I am excited to check out this new brewery when it's open.

They're doing Progress Pils, Prosperity Wheat (formerly known as Pearl Street, probably the Hefe you're thinking of) and CitraMax as their flagships. Some new seasonal Mango IPA shortly thereafter and they want to do a Barleywine year round too (I think its called Retro Hippo).

New place is pretty cool. Heated floors. Cost upwards of 3.5 million. Hopefully the beer sells, I just don't know if they stand out enough in today's market.

They are going to start packaging a ton. Jillian and I went to one of the soft opening events and I couldn't believe how big & nice that place was. They have a bottling line, but it seems like kegs are definitely going to be the initial form of distro.

They've only been brewing for two weeks and have something like 10 more fermenters on their way.

Yep, it was Pearl Street! I think that's a great beer. CitraMax is too inconsistent to me in my experiences (sometimes awesome, other times not so much). Maybe that has changed.

Pearl Street is delicious. I was there on Tuesday and thought it was gone. Only to find that it has a new name. Great hefe beer! The Mango IPA had a fantastic nose. Pretty solid taste as well. The Midnight Vorlauf coffee porter stole the show though. We ended up getting a free pour because the bartender messed up an order. Score! Didn't care a ton for the barleywine.

I just read an article in Scene with this quote:

“You toy with the idea of going to a small parcel of land in an industrial park, and how much money you’d save with little to no construction and less investment,” says co-founder Mark Priemer. “It teases you. But this was a chance in a lifetime to be right here in Ohio City, right by the West Side Market, next to our restaurant, so the decision was made.”

A dig at Fat Head's? If so, they better start hitting the level of quality FH's has.

Never, but never, fuck with the king, baby!!

Bonus points if you get that reference...

I honestly can see Market Garden selling a lot of beer. Is it the best in CLE?? Nope. Is it the worst? Nope. But there is a draw. It's Ohio City born...their places are always packed and the everyday Joe likes their beer. They aren't concerned with the "beer nerds", as they shouldn't be to be honest. Are they going a bit too big to start off?? That is definitely a concern. But in the end, I see them being very successful.

Yeah that place is a madhouse on weekend evenings. The scenery isn't too bad, either.

Did the BA Barleywine with Plums go pretty quick when that was released. I was interested in it and hope for distro but that didn't happen.

Not much Under My Plum was produced. I believe it sold out same day, but I think there was an early release at Party Source since it was a Quaff Brothers collaboration. I'm not a big barleywine fan, so I didn't seek it out.

I very highly doubt this. Andy is close with the guys at Fat Heads and anyone who has built a brewery knows it's often much more expensive to retrofit an existing structure than to build from scratch (land issues aside). The best possible structure to build a brewery in is a hollow shell. I have no doubts it was considerably more expensive to build in Ohio City in a 100 year old building. But Andy wanted to be near his other properties and that (busy) and historic location. He's also built the brewery to be geared toward tours with little to no draft sales at the production facility because of the proximity to Nano and the MG pub.

Yes, 1 bottle limit and lasted about 4-5 hours I think at MadTree. Sold out instantly at The Party Source when they released it but they didn't have a lot. Delicious if you ask me. My second favorite MadTree release only to CV Axis Mundi and if you ask on a different day, maybe my first favorite. Definitely my favorite Barleywine, but I haven't had a ton of them.

I went to the Party Source release. It was 2/person that day. There were more people in line than the amount of bottles available, so they started sales 5 minutes early. It sold out in six (6!) minutes! Definitely a great beer.
The same day they also released a Blank Slate/ De Struise collab that might've stolen the show- amazeballs! Space Taxi Barrel #21: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15237/211956/
If anyone is going to Cincy Beerfest this weekend, they are pouring the Space Taxi- seek it out, you will NOT be disappointed.

Totally agree about the inconsistency of CitraMax. I had a coffee porter there a few months ago that was pretty solid.

Did you get to try the BA rubus cacao yet? Thoughts?
