For those going to the Half Acre Double Daisy Cutter release today, I am thinking about going after I get off work at 3 and should be there around 330. Do people line up like at the Big Hugs release? Do I have a shot at getting bombers still around 330 or am I just being optimistic? Any insight I can get is much appreciated. Thanks!

Chances are going at 3:30pm you'll have no problem getting bombers with no line at all. I have never gone personally to a DD Cutter release but from what I've heard it's nothing compared to Big Hugs. Bombers have also hit distribution in the past. Good luck!

Last time at regular DDC release, there was no line when I got there after work. Having said that, the Chicago beer scene craziness is growing at an exponential rate.

When the Galactic DDC comes out in May... that's a different story.

It won't be like Big Hugs or Galactic DDC. In the past I've also gone after work and been fine. If I recall correctly it's also lasted until Saturday, but that's by no means a prediction of today's release.

Do people line up when the tap room opens at 11?

Skip overpriced bombers. Buy growlers instead, if anything. Why people are obsessed with bombers of beer that need to be drank ASAP (unless you're trading/sending bombers to a friend I guess?) when a cheap growler option is available is beyond me.

I don't understand anyone's preference for growlers. Easily the worst option for containing and consuming beer. Tap, can, bottle, growler. In that order.

I've never been good at knowing how long growlers really should "last", but I always thought that growlers needed to be drank within a relatively short window of purchasing them (I've heard anywhere from a few days to a month), whereas bottles can be held for longer. I don't disagree with the pricing favorability of growlers, but I have trended towards bottles because I could hang onto them for longer. Have I been wrong?

If I could get more beer cheaper, and planned to drink it immediately, I see no reason why you wouldn't get a growler.

You say tap is the best container. A growler is tap beer, essentially, if immediately consumed.

LOL...This growler/bomber conversation has already happened once....about the same beer, from the same person.

Your argument is proving my point. There is only one useful purpose for a growler: if you're going to consume the beer, like you said, *immediately. There's value in purchasing bombers of DD because it eliminates the need to consume "immediately".

A growler is not tap beer. A growler holds beer that came from a tap, but starts to diminish the quality of the beer as soon as it's transferred from the tap. You admit that when you included the "if immediately consumed" disclaimer at the end of your sentence.

No, it's cool. When you're staring that month+ old DDC in your fridge/cellar(?) and asking yourself why you 'maxed' your allocation after waiting in line for some reason because you really don't want to put down a bomber of old IPA, you'll start to understand...maybe.

But some people might still like that bomber, even if it's a month old, right? It seems like not such a bad thing for them to get bottles then. I'd love to get a growler if I knew I was going to drink 32-64 oz. of DDC at once, but that doesn't happen very often. It's great if you're together with friends to share, but those times are much more infrequent nowadays for me with other obligations.

As for today's release, I was originally planning on picking up something (bombers? growlers?), but looking at how much beer I have (and the need to save up some money), it's time for me to (try to) cut myself off for a bit, with only buying a few exceptions. So, my plan of going to Half Acre for this and/or Local Option today are out the window. Hopefully I will catch some of it on tap in the near future somewhere.

Well thanks for the info everyone and to those who entertained me with the bomber/growler debate. I'm looking for bombers because it's my girlfriends favorite beer and our anniversary is next week so I figured it would be a nice surprise (especially because she can never get any). I figured I'd like to get the 6. 2 for her 2 for me and 2 for a trading partner in Grand Rapids

Basically why I'm buying the 4 bombers (already set up multiple trades/sending to a friend to be shipped right away) and a growler for myself. :grinning:

That part does confuses me a bit too though. Half Acre has generally been recommending to open within 5 days and drink within 2-3 after opening. But when I filled a growler at TG with some Golden Nugget, they said it was good (if unopened) for a month as long as you keep it in a fridge.

Usual allotment is 4 bombers per person + growler/howler fill. Not sure if that's changed for this release, but I wouldn't count on 6.

Yeah, it's probably not really an exact science - perhaps can depend on brewery/beer and how "fresh" you prefer your beer. I know I've had a couple growlers from 18th Street, and I didn't feel like they would last long based on the carbonation - I drank them the same or next day.

No, I'm not making your point. If it's cheaper to buy by the growler and you're going to drink it right away, the growler remains the best option.

Yes, if you're going to drink it in a period of weeks, the growler is not the best option, but nobody, including me, said it was.

    Anywho...

    1) Some people actually drink the beers they buy and don't stare at them like trophies.

    2) Growlers have to be guzzled almost immediately, and all at once. If that's your plan, awesome. But that's not everybody's plan. I would probably space out my DDC consumption over 1-2 weeks.

    3) I'd rather see cans of this too, but it is what it is. You hate bombers. We get it. You can shut up about it now.
