I work a 9-5 job and had time to come from Seattle...Luckily I have a great boss. But yeah, I dont mnid driving down for tickets and whatever they want the limits to be, but they should bind names to the tickets at least to take away some of the scalpers.

This thread has real potential. It's only beer. We're all just in Tillamook on a Thursday afternoon for the processed cheese

I'll toss in a comment at the risk of being an insufferable twat, I understand the dissapointment of long term supporters, particularly the early keepers members, that have beek making the treks out there before the broader world knew of the liquid magic. First de Garde beer I had was Loak on draft at 16 Tons in Eugene several months before they had a taproom and I was hooked. When they announced that they were doing away with the club my response was "no big deal; it was a hassle for them and it's not as if there weren't already innumerable non-club bottles blowing my doors of perception off their hinges." But I did lament that the one big loss was going to be that guaranteed entry to the parties. That was the benefit I knew I'd miss.

So, before we simplify the world into "adults" and "entitled pricks" let's acknowledge that there's room for people that feel passionate attachment. While they will accept missing out won't just shrug it off; they'll feel an actual sense of loss / losing out. There are quite a few folks in the northwest that, I think, would call de Garde their favorite brewery and - rationally or not - feel a sense of investment and pride in the brewery's success. Businesses don't actually "owe" their customers anything above and beyond the transactional but something that's helped de Garde and many other breweries in the PNW and beyond - Fremont being another example that comes to mind - is behaving as if they do.

I'm not saying there is a magic solution that makes everyone happy but this situation does seem slightly less than ideal. The parties have been awesome in part because feedback has been received graciously and solutions implemented. I assume that'll be the case with how tickets are released.

If you're going to be at the shindig on Sunday, I would like to buy you a beer/drink ticket for making me laugh audibly at work with this comment.

Can we all recognize the absurdity of complaining WHILE tickets are still available?

Agreed. Tickets are still available to this awesome event. Whether you go Sunday or Saturday, the beers will be nearly the same and you'll still get bottles :grinning: yay beer...right...guys? Anyone?

I feel for you guys, I imagine the negativity that comes with these situations can outweigh a lot of the positive feedback and awards you get for your beer, which is unfortunate. Keep up the good work and thank you for doing these parties in the first place.

@deGardebrewing is damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

I obviously don't know all the reasons they went with this method of ticket sales for this event (although I have some insight), but between Pliny events, BCBS events, and all the other ticketed things we've done over the last 10 years I think I've learned a thing or two.

    -----

Pros of online tickets: someone else handles all the transactions for you, eliminates lines around the block, and makes things much easier on staff. In theory, anyone with a smart phone or computer has an equal chance at procuring tickets.

Cons of online tickets: If they sell out in minutes you end up with unhappy regulars who didn't get any because they were at work, in their car, or somewhere else that prevented them from being online during the tiny window of availability.

    -----

Pros of in-house ticket sales: Locals and regulars have a better shot at getting tickets, and you don't have to give 5-7% of the sale price to Brown Paper tickets.

Cons of in-house sales: Anyone who doesn't live nearby is pretty much SOL unless they have a friend who lives in the area and can grab one for you.

    -----

Either way, if those tickets are non-transferable and attached to names it becomes a huge pain in the ass for the event hosts, because no matter what you'll have to deal with a bunch of fucking idiots who don't understand the meaning of "non-transferable", and you have to waste shitloads of valuable time dealing with phone calls, emails, and stupid sob stories from said people because they bought tickets before finding out whether they (or their friends) could actually attend the event.

Is there a perfect solution? No.

Did they pick the solution that (in theory) gave greater access to long time local supporters while at the same time minimizing the amount of bullshit they have to deal with between now and the day of the event? Probably.

Will entitled people feel butthurt either way? Definitely.

Couldn't of said it better. There is no perfect solution when your amazing beers invite more guests than can be accommodated at the party, even with it being doubled in size. The fact people are complaining when tickets are still available just goes to show, it doesn't matter what you do, people will find something to complain about.

The other thing is, while the parties are fun, I highly recommend going to de Garde on non-party weekends. Maybe I'm agoraphobic, but i really enjoy drinking beers in their taproom when it's not so busy. They always have an excellent taplist, the bottle list is a de Garde lovers dream, and it is a nice relaxed atmosphere . Especially if you are traveling from out of state, you may find this to be a better overall experience. Plus, a quick look at yesterday's board tells me you could have left with at least 5 cases of beer.
