^This...not sure why it was so difficult for some?? Maybe internet speeds? 4 friends and I all got our tickets for Friday without issue.

Maybe trying to run a half dozen devices to hedge one's bets slows down someone's WiFi network?

@HoorayMichBeer I can't replay to your post b/c I use the app. Legend!

If anyone has bought ticket event before, your login info and CC are saved easy checkout process. For those who haven't, you had over a week to create an account. Yes they sold quick, but checkout was simple. Myself and 4 friends (all who I knew tried) got Saturday tickets no issues. One person was even at breakfast with his lady friend and just did it on his phone NOT using wifi.

Missed this year but since I live here in Grand Rapids I'll drink plenty looking at it as an opportunity to drink down my cellar.

These ticketed releases are a good reminder that there simply is no good way to release these highly sought after beers. Breweries are in a tough spot because choosing a given strategy is really just a choice between which types of issues consumers will have to deal with.

A ticketed release is nice in that people who get shut out ultimately only waste a few minutes. No lining up for hours after driving (sometimes) long distances only to get nothing. Of course the lower level of risk also increases the number of people who are willing to roll the dice and reduces a given individual's odds of being successful. A brewery release theoretically gives the most motivated people the best chance of success. It eliminates the fact that with an online ticket release you're basically playing the lottery and there is no way to ensure yourself tickets, no matter what tricks people think they have worked out--I missed out on mobile with no wifi but I have an Eventbrite account. There are simply no guarantees when you have a huge group of people all trying to get a small quantity of items simultaneously.

But I'm not saying one way is better than the other. They are just different. And while it stinks to strike out, I know for a fact that I've succeeded where others have struck out on other releases, so it's no big deal; it's part of the game. That's the reality of craft beer in 2016.

Guess I'll be scavenging in AA in a month or so...

I live in the middle of nothing (see: Middleville), and don't have access to any type of broadband internet (nearest lines end 1000ft from our property). We use 'wireless' high-speed - have a dish on our roof pointed at the closest cell tower... Peak speeds are around 6mbps (still much faster than dial-up I guess). Point being, last year my Wife and I were able to get one ticket; this year we were both able to get a ticket (albeit I got hers around 11:10).

It doesn't really bother me when I hear people expressing being bummed on missing out (much like I did regarding Hazel's release...). It DOES, however, really grind my gears (Peter Griffin voice) to see people acting like a bunch of little children with the sense of entitlement. I'd love to meet some of those bitching in person (about how unfair this was, or how unfair Hazel's release was, etc...), so I could give you a big FUCK OFF!

Sorry for being less than polite, but act like fucking adults when things don't work out for you already. If it causes you SO much pain / anguish for missing out, then find another fucking hobby... Jesus Christ!

@BEERschlitz hit the nail on the head too... There will be PLENTY of this to go around in Michigan even if you did miss out on the tickets. When gas stations in West Michigan got it last year, I was a bit surprised....But it'll be around if you care to look for it.

It's really simple to pick up a phone and make a few phone calls to ask shops to save a bottle or 4 pack for you. What's the worst they'll say? No? I guess those with said sense of entitlement don't like hearing that word either though. Personally, I'll be making a few phone calls myself (even though we are already guaranteed a case), because I enjoy drinking this one (and sharing it with my non-craft friends who constantly ask about KBS). I was pretty surprised, however, when I checked out my current KBS stash today, and found some 2013, some 2014, and some 2015. Pretty excited about doing a 4 year vertical this year (hopefully all those with butt hurt can handle this last paragraph) :grinning:.

I won't quote it but to this guy above me^^^^^^^^ the sentiment is the same. People everywhere feel entitled to everything in this day and age. I wasn't picked for a certain job? How DARE THEY! I DESERVE IT! Life isn't perfect as I saw my mom who is 60 come down with pancreatic cancer this week, and she is the sweetest lady you will meet! Life is all about ups and downs. I wouldn't change my life for anything. I live it for every moment I can get. I was lucky to get tickets for this event and super excited to go up on Saturday.

To those wondering about my mom. She has been fortunate that her cancer is in one area and has not spread at all. She is getting the best care possible and has an awesome super network. She will battle and conquer it .

    Anyway, just my two cents.

I was on before 11 and got kicked out for having multiple tabs. Pretty bummed I didn't get tickets but I'm also not entitled to them. Still going to make the trip up there as Founders and Grand Rapids are awesome. I also locked in a swap for some 2016 KBS so it works out in the end.

Blackhawk fans are automatically locked out, this is pretty common knowledge.

Not just Blackhawks fans, FIB's in general. IP's are blocked. It's the same reason the Hazels Nuts release started so early, so they showed up late and got shut out.

Hopefully you can come across more than what I can offer while you're up here. Happy to be able to get some into your hands though. Still waiting for that BM brother .

But yeah... Not a fan of the Blackhawks hah. Go Wings!

Nhens0016 best wishes to your Mom.

I was lucky enough to get a ticket for Saturday. I have been very lucky with KBS and highly unlucky with Dark Lord.

This year I will not even try for Dark Lord as I will be in the Netherlands on Dark Lord Day.

But I would like to suggest the KBSweek model of the last two years is a good way to go. There are sixteen opportunities to have KBS over the week. 15 bars 3 per night and the Saturday at the Taproom. Some of the participating bars last year also had CBS on tap. The taproom did for sure.

I will have a 1000km round trip to pickup 12 bottles and I might have still gone even if I was unsuccessful today. I have always enjoyed my visits to Grand Rapids, and Founders Taproom. However a brewery decides to control the chances to buy their releases. It is always a good thing when they spread the chances to try it.

Case in point. The week after Surly's Darkness Day(2015), their taproom had Darkness on tap, some Bars in the Twin cities had it and the release to distribution was the next week, with a number of chances to buy Darkness.

    Sante

I believe it's an acronym for Fucking Illinois Bastards if I'm not mistaken. While there were quite a few FIBs at the Hazel's release, @Jordan3292 doesn't quite fit that mold. He's a pretty good guy (as anybody who knows him will likely agree).
