What beer are you drinking now? #1213

San Miguel Pale Pilsner while eating a bowl of noodles on the street. It's extra nasty, perhaps ranks up there with the worst beers I've had but I'm determined to finish it.

Do you crazy yanks really drink this early? Fairplay to you, that's commitment.

I myself am starting at a more sensible 1pm. Following a job interview I went into the local pub (Kew Gardens Hotel, West London) and quaffed down a pint of the local Kew Brewery Petersham Porter. Extra fresh, but lovely and thick, luscious, soft and complex with tons of chocolate, bit of dark fruit in the background and a subtle burnt bitter finish. It's never usually quite this good, but this really sums up with British cask beer rules (or can rule, when the secondary fermentation is done right). So much flavour for so little abv.

 

Woke up to a few inches of snow today, opening this seemed the logical thing to do. Winter is never truly over around here until July. Oh well, another day closer. Let's have a great week!

 

One from a day or two ago is this Pilot (Edinburgh, Scotland) Citrus & Basil Sharp. A brilliant, unfiltered and unfined, Saison with Sorachi Ace hops, lemon and lime, and fresh basil. It's all really well intergrated and extremely unusual (in a good way). Pilot are definitely worth seeking out if you ever make the trip across the pond.

The '14 is more lively, more chocolate, more silky. '14 seems to be the sweet spot as far as aging. The '13 drops off and gets everything turned down a bit too much.

P.S. that bottle opener is the best opener I ever had. It never bends a cap, pure prying action from edge to edge.

@CNoj012 : Next year, split the seam ala a half-vertical-butterfly then tuck the bacon and make it fully heart shaped...the significant other will absolutely melt
