I think those are going to end up being called "Session IPA's" by a lot of brewers. Ugh.

My question was not whether there should be styles, or guidlines for that matter. Just, what do you think the next wave of styles might be. I asked homebrewers, because that is the people I wanted to have this conversation with.

Graetzer since Weywrmann is making oak smoked wheat.

I will make an attempt at a Landbier, like the ones I have had around Bamberg, and NG 2 Women Lager is of that style. That would go in category 23 for a BJCP sanctioned competition, and I would be surprised if it did well.

Not likely to happen, but I would like to see an icebeer category.

Do you mean something different than an Eisbock?

I call mine a West Coast Bitter, but have also called it a Mini-IPA. Thinking about it though, I think it should be a half-IPA. We already have a double, non?

If I had to guess, I would think a few breweries will be imperializing their Black IPAs. Some will be like a RIS with a giant hop nose and flavours, others will be more like a black DIPA.

I also think more "regular" breweries will be trying out 100% Brett beers.

There is an American Style - Brett Ale now. Imperial Black IPA, oh god...the horror.

Yes. I know there is a bjcp category for Eisbock but I think you could have another category for different styles that undergo the freezing process.

I'd like a category for Black Saisons
I can't think of one that exists, might have to make one.

not all that exciting, but guessing gluten free will need it's own category before long...

Sorry... I was thinking BJCP Guidelines at shown here http://www.bjcp.org/styles04/ which has no such style

If there's a bandwagon to jump on, count me in. As long as there is beer. :sunglasses:

One thing I really love is a really hoppy red beer, such as Green Flash Hop Head Red. It could be a style! Perhaps we need to have a brewfest and get the ball rolling...

Since I'm about to switch to all grain, I could try brewing a batch :grinning:

Got any general recipe guidelines for all-grain?

Note that Tupper's hop pocket pils and Victory prima pils are amongst my favorite pils evah. They're damn delicious and I'm always craving one or the other. :sunglasses:

What about white IPA's? They seem to be gaining popularity and more and more brewers are hopping on that bandwagon. No pun intended.

Anybody got a good white IPA recipe? Is it something between a wit and an IPA?

It's not really a style, though. As a commercial category, it's important; but as far as styles go, it would be like having an "organic" style.

Try Deschutes "Chainbreaker"...think Belgian IPA with wheat and little or no caramel...not their best idea IMHO

Yes, this was exactly what I was thinking about too. A relatively new beer style that has entered the craft beer scene recently. I have really enjoyed the Deschutes/Boulevard one this year; and was pretty impressed with the Sam Adams one, but I would be alright with it losing the apricots.

My next beer is going to be a White IPA actually. I am planning on making a standard wit recipe with half and half wheat and pils with a bit of flaked wheat, on the high end of style gravity. And then I will hop it with some Centennial and maybe Ahtanum and then control ferment temps ramped up with WLP400. Moderately soft Belgian water profile to match a wit profile.
