I think it will be just like Abyss this year. There's room for variance in the 12%. I wouldn't panic yet. I believe there was a Big Bad baptist (The better beer) that was 12.2%

And both of those were pulled from the shelves (or were supposed to) and BBB came back with a batch that was under 12.

If it's labeled as 12.4%, it will not be able to be sold here, period. And the room for variance is only .2%.

As far as this whole KBS situation goes, I'm gonna venture to say that California, since they just started getting Founders, will be getting Ohio's entire allotment this year.

Maybe this will finally be the straw that gets everyone to actually contact their State Rep and bitch about this stupid ABV law.

You are acting under the assumption that the American people have more power than the corporations...good luck with that :astonished: although technically corporations are people too!!!

Just curious, how many people have actually contacted their state rep in regards to changing OH's ABV law? Cause you know this is the New to Ohio beer thread and we'd be getting a shit ton of new beers with an actual common sense ABV limit.

If KBS is really 12.4% this year, Founders just told Ohio, a state that has supported them since before the "bolt cutter" days, to go fuck ourselves.

Make no mistake, a 1.2% variance doesn't happen accidentally if you've got state of the art brewing equipment, "temp controlled" gypsum mines to age your beer in and the ability to blend out any extremely wet/hot barrels. And they certainly know about our cap since we missed out on a few Backstage beers due to our asinine laws.

Hopefully it's a misprint/misunderstanding. Would be a shame since we've gotten KBS for over 10 years now and OH has been a part of the foundation that's let them grow and expand to places like CA.

I have met with 3 different reps during their public hours and, quite frankly, there's zero point and they'll tell you that off the record. Consumers won't be the force that changes the law. It'll have to be retailers, restaurants, distributors and Brewers - tax and job resources.

This would be wayyyy more convenient for me if they would do it Saturday night on my way to Willoughby.

Super bummed to hear about KBS this year. Was really looking forward to doing a KBS/SMS side by side tasting.
On a slightly better note, Wet When Slippery at the HH brewpub is phenomenal. Might just be my favorite beer from them yet. Julius has some serious competition.

So I just got around to putting this stuff away and only you guys will appreciate this. The Molson Ice was bottled in May 2015. I am sure Dad won't care but the irony! I look at all MY beer bottled on dates, didn't think about the Ice. Note to self, do not buy Canadian Beer at a craft beer store.

Had a conversation with someone today about Ohio beer. I feel less disappointed about KBS because I know Ohio breweries are pumping out delicious beer that makes up for it. I hope that people will focus more on drinking local. I understand that some out of state breweries make some really special beers but we have a lot to offer in Ohio.

Yeah, I will almost certainly be heading down to Jackie O's for 'Champion Ground' this fall. Any one remember when that came out last year? So that is a major plus! For me personally though, KBS has a special place in my heart. Some sentimental value I guess. It was the first and last beer I really liked to hunt down... I'll admit, It was the last beer I really hoarded. I just loved the stuff! Even have a few saved which I planned on doing a vertical with. It's far from the end of the craft beer world. Just takes wind out of my sails in what has already become a very 'gimmicky' beer era.
