I stumbled into a bottle of Cantillon Rose today. I've never had it before, so I'm pretty excited.

Been going to the same shop for years, so they tend to look out for their regular customers.
I agree with the chasing culture, couldn't be arsed with it. If they hadn't contacted me and it was sold out I would have been too miffed. Not really one for running about to pick up rarities, if they come my way fair enough, if they don't meh.

Oh sorry I didn't mean you in particular, should have phrased it better!

Ah don't worry I wasn't thinking you were
But that culture of yearly releases and people queueing for 1 bottle is starting to creep in. Take UnHuman Cannonball release this year for example. The bottle shop I go to, if there is very limited stock, will limit the amount you can by so that it gives more people a chance. They just also give regulars a heads up lol

Had some Death By Coconut last night, awesome beer if you like the taste of Bounty. Thankfully I do.

I just had the Beavertown Spresso... delicious and velevety smooth, but similar quality beers have been made available in regular production and not just a rare. I also had the Mandarina Bavaria Saison by Partizan which was nice and refreshed my palate after the Spresso. I then popped over to BrewDog Clerkenwell and had a BBNo Oatmeal Stout, since they had a tap take over last night, lots of left overs. I'm hoping for a lot of new beers on Saturday at CBR. I'm most interested in Electric Bear Cherry Blackout, obscure as it may be, I love cherry stouts. Hope they bring it with!

Out and about in London today - had Twickenham Grandstand (3.8%) a pretty slimy bitter, okay but not really memorable, and Butcombe Bitter which was nice and intensely malty like brown bread, as usual. It was a shame to see the Fullers pub it was in had replaced their Chimay Doree tap with a Hoegarden one too.

Both my plans for renting when I start work went down the shitter in swift and alarming succession too. So I'm consoling myself with Magic Rock Grapefruit High Wire and Beavertown Gamma Ray (the guy gave me a discount so it was 2 of each for a tenner (plus some Beavertown bar mats). The High Wire is decent, and the smell is awesome. Tons of grapefruit (nice even if they did cheat by using actual grapefruit). Impressed by the malt too, biscuity and crisp but also substantial.

Next up is the Gamma Ray - hope it's as good as I remember.

The Gamma Ray was beautiful. Glad I have another. The hops seem slightly more resinous which balances out the citrus flavours, unlike with the Grapefruit High Wire, and the malt is a bit more substantial. This and Black Betty are what give Beavertown a leg to stand on when trying to live up to the hype (in my very humble, more 'umble than Uriah Heap, opinion). Also Smog Rocket I guess.

Why is this a pale ale and Neck Oil is a session IPA? This is far closer to an IPA than the thin and watery mess that is Neck Oil.

I've had an exciting afternoon of beer. I started with Anspach & Hobday The New World Gose, which was salty and sour, easy to drink. I then had Surtur No. 30 by Borg Brugghus of Iceland, which was a very nice imperial stout. I also had a Monjolo Imperial Porter by Tupiniquim of Brazil. It was excellent, rich and smooth chocolate/coffee flavour. The Monjolo was the best of the afternoon in flavour and name. I found the imperials at Craft Beer Co. Islington (Angel).

Highlight of the night so far is the ever consistent Fullers 1845. I love this beer!

Wiper and True takeover yesterday at Craft Beer Co in Covent Garden. Hadn't tried any of their stuff before but enjoyed every one I had. Highlight for me was their Hard Shake.

I enjoyed Wylam beers – Galaxia and Dognobbler – in two consecutive pubs today. Both in excellent shape and very clean flavoured and well balanced.

M and S Double Hopped Citra IPA
    M and S Sorachi Saison
    Bax Bier Koud Vuur
    Sierra Nevada Torpedo

Stand out was the Bax Bier, a very nice well balanced smoked porter. One from a shipment from Firmabier of Dutch microbrews and all have been very good so far. Just scoping a trip to Krakow in August. Looks like some good beer bars there.

My fave local brewery in Bristol. They do a crackin range of NZ hopped Saisons and the older brother to Hard Shake, Milk Shake is definitely worth a try.
