Hoof Hearted

I would take Ohio, easily. We are downright spoiled with incredible beers. Especially with IPA's.

I have had a bunch of New England area stuff now, and there a few standouts, but for the most part I would take Ohio beers over the best of them. Looking at you Fat Heads, Jackie O's, JAFB, Hoof, Columbus and others.... The quality is just awesome around here.

I do love me some fresh Heady though...

 

It's not bold, it's my opinion.

I am not crazy about HT or anything I have had from Lawson's. Hill Farmstead and Trillium are good, but nothing otherworldly. Never had Treehouse, but doubt it would sway me.

Edit - forgot about NEBCO. Another good brewery, but we have as good and better here.

 

Dinner is the only thing that i have had that's come out of New England that gets close to Juju.

 

Believe me I get it. Having pride about your states brewing scene is awesome. Having lived in two different states in the past 4 years, I have not found the best quality either (lived in PA and KY). I like Ohio beers and don't get me wrong, the accessibility definitely plays a part in the thinking too. I have had fat heads and liked it, had jackie o's and liked it too. Haven't had hoof or columbus and excited to try it.

I am no beer connoisseur so I don't have a ratings system in my head. I just know I had fresh Heady and that was better than any other IPA I have had.

Just curious, what would be the ranking of the breweries in Ohio? Fat Heads, Jackie O's, Hoof Hearted, and to an extent Columbus Brewing are the only four I know of. I like rhinegeist and think they make great beer but wouldn't say they are in the tops.

 

These Ohio guys killing the NE IPAs hype are going to screw with their trade value!!

 

It's an opinion, man and you are entitled to yours. I have traveled a lot and traded a lot, so my opinion isn't coming from ignorance or homerism. Sure, some points are added because of bias, but that goes for everyone, not just me.

My ranking:

- Fat Head's
- JAFB
-Hoof
- Columbus
-Platform
-Rhinegeist
-Willoughby
-Mad Tree


There are more and the list changes, but that's pretty much it for me. If I were listing based on IPAs, Fat Head's would be on top and maybe JAFB or Hoof no 2.

 

I will say Jackie O's had an all citra IPA at the brew pub and that was simply fantastic. Wish they would bottle their IPAs a little bit more instead of making it a brew pub exclusive draft.

 

Citra Mandala? My god, that was incredible. Had it at Rozi's in Lakewood on tap and was blown away.

I wish they would can that stuff...

 

Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe they have said they are going to can the mandala series. Maybe later this year or next? Either way, I can't wait.

 

love me some Jackie O's but I wouldn't consider IPAs there strong suit. Mumsy and some of those beermosas or whatever are the only ones that come to mind that I really liked. Probably a good thing cuz there barrel program doesn't leave much money left over as is...

 

Jackie O's is going to can Mandala sometime later this year. Hasn't been announced which version(s). I hope it's Citra, it's a fantastic beer.

I hope it's the maple/chile version like I had originally heard (many months ago).

 

Pretty certain. They were thinking about calling "Sticky Mom Jeans" haha. It tasted pretty good a couple months ago.

 

I just hope its a Marengo release and not a brewpub release.
