Same day as CFH and Festival of Funk? I mean, if there was some good stuff in there, maybe you'll get a decent turn out. But I'm not sure why anyone would want some old ass IPA, Sorry, Not Sorry sure does live up to its name now, and various other stuff that didn't move.

Who am I kidding, You'll guys pack it in with newmoney going crazy for beer they'll foolishly try to cellar for god knows what reason.

i'm dropping into the Pacific forum since i'm visiting SD this week. sorry (not sorry?) you guys don't get fresh and incredible bale breaker beers. i think it's cool that Stone did a collab with them, tho.

are people actually serious with this "new money" phrase that's always thrown around on here. i honestly can't tell any more

so certain expensive beers are more attractive to individuals who have recently acquired financial wealth? but others aren't?

Sorry not sorry was fine when I tried it fresh. It is a tough market for aging IPAs in 2016. Best of luck to stone with the sale. Don't see any reason to be nasty.

Bummed to see Matt's Burning Rosids & Quadrotriticale go.
I dug the idea behind the Stochasticity Project, but I think they should've kept the Stone name off the label. Not because I think they should've kept their involvement a secret, but it may have people from trying to pigeon-hole it.

Saw some Matt's Burning Rosids (bottled early 2014) today at Total Wine. Is that beer really meant to age for a couple years? Really enjoyed it on the first run. But have a lot of doubts original bottles still hold up.

It ages really well actually. And most places discount them so it's a steal for me.

They should just donate this beer to some village in Zimbabwe.

    Shelf turd sale.

I wonder if they pulled these from all the stores that have them sitting on shelves still?
I hope so, Stones had more labels on the shelf than AB-InBev lately.

When I heard about this, I was worried I'd have to make a choice between the CFH and Stone Warehouse Sale shanty towns. Glad CFH is online this year!

New money is the phrase holier than thou beer snobs use to feed their own ego while putting others down.

IE...New money goes crazy over stone fruit sours and adjunct stouts....but ill buy them too and its okay because im not new money.

It's actually a way to try to rationalize a sudden growth or popularity in a beer or a style or what have you that in the past wasn't as popular. Getting insulted by being lumped together for whatever reason isn't going to help. Would you rather folks just continue the trend of lumping other's bright eyed excitement for stuff that those who have "been there and done that" in the old method of just stating a registration year to BA?

Because it's not about putting people down, it's about simply saying another person is a bit green behind the ears. If you want to be insulted when others state that you're "Being new to something. Naive. Lacking experience and or understanding." Then perhaps thicker skin should be on your ISO list.

The fact is that this sell is something that would appeal to those who are new to the beer scene. Is that a bad thing? Not at all. But this is nothing more than inventory cleaning of beer that sat for a reason. I'm not sure how anyone who knows a thing or two about beer would be excited to buy an old IPA.

It's odd that you also blast terms about ego stroking when wasn't it you who felt like you weren't ego stroked enough walking into Modern Times as a league member simply because there was no clear incentive for being part of the membership?

wow stone. hope you learned your lesson, the price needs to go down on bombers, limit the ipa productions, and for the love of god stay away from brown ales and elderberries.

I guess my only problem with that is that it's sort of conveniently amorphous. (Just like the annoyingly impossible to nail-down "hipster") I remember a thread recently where a 2015 registered ba w/ an avatar of other half cans got some rough handling over being "new money" cause he asked why do people even like stone... Seems like flexible slander.

In my opinion, the people who don't mind a 3 to 6 month old IPA actually tend to be the old school guys who predate "enjoy by", rabid bottle date checking and unfiltered IPAs (etc) but what do I know? If I was a gambling man id wager more crusty old timers are walking outta this sale with cases than 20 something untappd addicts.

Either way Stone has been pretty good about working with distributors to get transparently fresh product onto the shelves. I trust their judgement to not try to sneak a bunch of unacceptable product onto the consumer. They have a lot of beer they gotta move and are offering it at a reduced price. Why is that offensive?

I'm pretty sure that they're not trying to sneak unacceptable product to their consumer. They're flat out telling them it's old material. This is basically going into Ikea into that "room of returned AS-IS shit" or going to traditional store outlet shops. You walk in knowing your product is potentially going have a problem with it. Be it missing bolts or a sweater that has one arm longer than the other.

I don't think it's so much offensive, as it is a tangible sign of what folks have been voicing for a while - that they are flooding the market with products that aren't being purchased for a specific reason.

    Always interesting theories abound!

What we have here is "Odds and Ends" that are only for those that like/want them. Folks will have the opportunity to taste so they have zero chance of getting something they don't like.

Ultimately, the amount of beer we have for most of these equals less than 1-2% of the release volume for that beer. Due to vagaries of distribution and 100+ wholesalers around the country, it's not unusual for their to be odds and ends. Typically, they simply get sold over a longer period of time to various markets, or if they're no longer tasting good enough to sell, we destroy them. Code-length for one-off specialty beers can be hard to predict, and the enjoy by dates we print is often our best 'safe guess' (realizing that beers can be good for a substantial time after if they're stored properly...all of these have been stored in our coldbox the whole time). Thus, we tasted all these and determined that they're all within acceptability...especially since people will get to taste them and make their own call. That's of course different from a normal retail situation.

Any other time, the public would have no view onto the odds and ends that a brewery has. In this case however, since we found that we had ended up with a small collection, it just seemed like too much of a bummer to destroy as usual. It's just the reality that if you have cases of a beer that's no longer marketable due to the fact that it's a one-off and the rest of its batch already sold into the marketplace a while ago, we end up with orphans that are simply in want of a loving home.

True, not everyone liked all these beers. That's cool, and always the case. However, this was inspired a bit by BeerAdvocate, because if you read through reviews of these beers there are always those that LOVED them. This One Time Warehouse Sale is for THOSE folks. Those that loved a given beer and have written "I wish I could get more!" Now is their time.

For those that want to carry on and on (and on) about newmoney, shelfturds, hope you learned your lesson, meh, flooding the market, etc. Have at it baby. This sale is for you too so you can have something to post snarky comments about instead of working! Lol. [Again, a genuine lighthearted, good natured laugh.]

    Cheers! -Greg.
