I suppose "yeasty" might have been overstating it somewhat, but in comparison the festbier was almost too clean.

Having a bottle of Gänstaller Bräu Zoigl. 5.8% abv, 14.5% plato. It's a limited time release at the monopoly, the brewery collaborated with a Swedish craft brewery a while back and now they are releasing one of their own beers here, albeit for a limited time. The beer is rather hazy in the glass. The smell is surprisingly clean, I was expecting maybe a more "rustic" smelling lager beer with perhaps some yeastiness, but it's wonderfully clean. Flavorwise it's a mix between prominent malt with some malt sweetness, but not overly much, and the sweetness is kept in check by both the bitterness and the (distinct) hop flavors. The bitterness isn't particularly sharp, but it's elevated to where despite the sweetness there is a balance and the hop flavors help achieve this balance as well. Even so it is not a dry beer. The body is also quite soft and not sharp from carbonation. This is just the kind of beer I would expect, and was hoping to get, from a smaller Bavarian brewery, combining techniqual quality with character and flavor. I'm very impressed.

I think it's absolutely brilliant. A wonderful, wonderful Kellerbier of great complexity and yet extreme drinkability. I'm trying to get hold of as many as I can. Have fifteen now, but can't possibly stop there. This is the best thing I have bought from Systembolaget in ages.

The local shop got some Fastenbier in, so my wife picked it up for me. I looked at it when she got home and it's last year's. The store was out of it so the distributor must have been sitting on it. Arrrgggh!

I emailed the shop. They said to bring it back and they'd order another case.

Wait, how'd you know it was last year's? Schlenkerla doesn't bottle date.

The Fastenbier has its year dated on the neck label in Roman (odd choice) numerals -- see Crusader's image on page 77 of this thread.

They put the year on the labels in Roman numerals. @Crusader posted a picture of his and it had 'MMXVI' (2016) at the top. In @JackHorzempa's picture, it shows 'MMXV' (2015).

Has anyone actually seen 2016 in the US?

Remains to be seen whether the distro is dropping new stock... :astonished: (yeah, I'm skeptical, but I also just bought a new label from a reputable brewer, but I hadn't looked for the dating code -- turned out to be almost a year old and was damned sour. Beer reported to the retailer -- clerk said the beer had just been delivered the week before, stay tuned)

Wait a sec, it was this year's label and was almost a year old?

2016 in CT. I'm extremely fortunate the importer (B. United) is in my home state. If you need bottles, let me know, happy to send out.

I didn't saw "this year," I said "new." New label for that particular brewery and a rotating style.

Just landed in NJ today. After having it for the first time last year, it is one of the seasonal beers I am looking forward to the most this year. Hope everyone who wants it is able to find some very soon as well.

With all the talk about Weihenstephaner and other Weizens elsewhere on the boards, I picked up a Schneider Original (Tap 7) last week and finally poured it this afternoon. As good as ever and still tops for my choice of Bavarian Weiß. Might have to grab an Aventinus this week.

Of note, there are 2 codes on the label; one looks like the obvious Julian date: 030215 (Oct 29th, 2015), and above that is 15.069. Anyone decode that? Only 52 weeks in a year, so that's ruled out.
