I have 1 day in LA. What are the beer destinations I must hit up? I'm from the East Coast, so looking to try some of the best the west side has to offer. Thanks!
LA is a big place. What area will you be in, what's your transportation situation, and what styles do you prefer?
I'm staying in Long Beach, but I have rental car and can go wherever. I'd like to hit some places with great atmosphere as well as beer. I'd like to try some Pliny, of course. I like most styles.
I'd add to that Phantom Carriage and maybe even Congregation Alehouse next to Beachwood or El Segundo Brewing Company. Honestly with only one day in the area it's best not to spend the entire day driving around.
Beachwood Beachwood Beachwood Don't waste your time trying to hunt down Pliny, and I say that as the biggest defender of Pliny around. Besides, if you're lucky, Beachwood may have it on tap when you go.
The Med in Hermosa is right on the Pier, has a great tap list, excellent tapas and great people watching. They have PTE frequently on tap and have a host of RR sours in bottles. Love this place.
Again...if your in LB, Beachwood LB for sure. What day of the week will you be here. Weekdays...You will have to deal with traffic if you go to some of the other places mentioned here. Congregational Ale House is a hundred feet away from BWLB. Depending on where bouts your staying LB you might be able to walk or Uber it to the location. And if you want more selections from guest beers you could bus it or Uber it from the BWLB location to their Seal Beach location. And RiiP is just another 5 minutes south on PCH. Their IPAs are getting better and better as the get dialed in. And if your feeling a little bit experimental you could stop in Belmont Shore Brew Co. Bottle shops in the LB area you have Stearns and Whole Foods. Some of the above ^^^ mentioned places do not open till later in the afternoon. But if you insist on driving out of the LB area I would hit Naja's Place in Redondo pier. Huge tap list. Great views (pier, boats and sunsets). Great people watching when it's not blowing cold. I believe they still have like 77+ (88) taps of greatness. I haven't been able to bring up their tap list in years.
Great. Thanks for the advice. I actually just landed at LAX. I'll be here all week, but today is really my only free time. Looking forward to trying these places out.
Looks like pliny is on at Beachwood in seal beach. Also, looks like blind pig and row 2 are on at Beachwood in long beach, plus citraholic. Maybe hit both?
Still too earl y to hit up ESBC, Smog, Monkish or Phantom. They don't open till noonish. Whole Foods El Segundo down Sepulveda has a great selection of bottles. They may have Nobles Tongue Tickles bottles left. Grab some bottles before you head to LB. And what @Lostmango said.....Beachwood has a great tap list going on right now. CitraHolic!!!! Plus some RRBC beers on. Hell yes. If you are still in the LB area the rest of the week, CitraHolic bottles comes out on Tuesday. If you still need a pliny fix you can head to BW's Seal Beach location. Have fun.
