I am going to be in Philly and plan on hitting up Foodery for bottles and possibly Monk's for mussels and loons. I was wondering if there are any bottles in Philly right now that I should keep my eye out for?

Foodery had Firestone DDBA and Parabola this past weekend. They were probably $50 a pop, though.

Tart of Darkness might still be floating around in some bottle shops.

Foodery needs to be on a boycott list. They are the higher than bar prices. I NEVER go there and NEVER will. We need to send them a message.

beer heaven is worse. and a couple other bottle shops in philly have been just as bad, at times. but when you're an out of towner that doesn't get that stuff normally, it's usually not a problem for them.

What bottleshops have good prices in Philly? I got into town about 3 weeks ago and so far ive found, Foodery, Monde Market, Food and Friends and Beer Heaven and they all seem to have the same price level...

if you're out of town and want rare stuff, you have to stick with the places with the "high prices"
all the places i'd recommend are for people that price compare constantly and aren't looking for the rare stuff, ie they don't always have that kind of stuff you're looking for, and if they do, it's a crap shoot, so i wouldn't send you there.

if you don't care though, you kind of have to venture into the suburbs: whole foods in plymouth meeting or devon, wegmans in downingtown, king of prussia, or collegeville. pinocchio's in media for rare stuff but still better priced compared to city. and a couple of the suburban beer distributors if you're looking for cases of rare stuff (beer yard, township line, kunda, etc)

There is an advantage to Foodery's high prices: they actually have special beers in stock. Plymouth Meeting Whole Foods, not so much.

The Craft Beer Outlet has DDBA for 20.99 before taxes.

that's the point i was trying to make. when they get the rare stuff in, it doesn't last, so you have to kind of be a regular or lurker to get it. doesn't work for people visiting out of town and would most likely be a waste of a trip out there. so they're better off sticking to the places with high prices that WILL have the stuff they want in stock.

I totally disagree. I can name ten beers that Foodery is $5 more than Beer Heaven. I am not saying that BH is cheap, but the Foodery is off the map with their prices.

Whole Foods Devon had a bunch of Double DBA's, $15.99 apiece
