Don't generally start threads, but as I'm checking out the new BA digs, what the hey!

Damn San Diego: y'all have a real winner in Alpine. Top notch brews, GREAT 'que (I'm as much a que snob as a beer snob, and Alpine's 'que was totally unexpected and spot on!), friendly staff, and a cool small town vibe. What an awesome place!

What I dug most about the brews, besides being well made, is that the range of styles offered spanned from the expected IPAs (Nelson and EH2 were superb) to a world class sour (shame on you was on, in english speak). It's rare to see such well done breadth in a brewpub (though the one stout on--Odin's Raven--left much to be desired in my book). Phenomenal joint, well worth the short drive from SD.

I have yet to go to their brewpub. All the bottled beers I have are top notch!

Glad to see you love it/them as much as the rest of us! Their BBQ is some of my favorite (especially their sauce), and the staff are always at the very least helpful. As for the beer, Nelson is the best IPA in America in my opinion, and their other IPAs are all world class. Odin's a good beer, but definitely not my favorite.

Unfortunately I have been burned in the past with bad bottles. I am wary of buying any more Alpine from stores nowadays.

I've never had a bad bottle, and I've purchased about a dozen at various bottle shops. I usually ask a store owner when they got the bottles in. One place in Mira Mesa stocks Alpine but they are never refrigerated and not completely hidden by the sun. I avoid that place.

The only bad Alpine bottle I've ever gotten was the BA Token a few months back. Otherwise my luck has been good. Bring on the hops!

I know the place you're talking about, and that's just more Alpine for me...

I will only buy bottles from the brewery. I have actually talked to many at the brewery about bottle dating...well see when that happens.

How bad was the Token with the infection? Drain pour or just off?

I still have 3 bottles. I had one last month, a lot will say drain pour but I drank the whole bottle. Pretty sour.

Ya it is not that great. Suck we both still have a few bottles. Hey but Pat at Alpine says we should have kept them in the fridge and they would still be good.

It's pretty bad. Still drinkable, sure, but personally I don't see a point in drinking something that's gonna destroy my already deadening palate (from the alcohol) for the next beer I open.

I've had it from the tap and it's amazing. I did read about a bad run on the Token bottles.

Oh, I emailed Alpine yesterday and they said Great will be back on tap in...14 months!

Well the one I opened was my sister's that was not refrigerated. The 3 I have are in a fridge that stays about 47-50. Fingers crossed.

I spoke to Pat about the issue. He said the bottles should have been kept in a fridge. I disagreed with him. He kinda did not like that. Whatever. Every brewery makes a beer here or there that is not the best. I know the money we spent that day went to helping them open a bigger brewery so I am cool with that. Plus I can say I opened 2 bottles right away after I got them and they were very good. Opened one about a month ago, not so great. We will see what happens.

Nelson, Duet, and Ned are my favorite. Wish it was easier to get in LA though.

that sounds about right. my impression is that alpine does not like to admit mistakes. not a very smart perspective if you want to court potential investors. i also had my bottle of BA token within a week after release and it was a nice beer but they had a clear infection issue that got away from them IMHO.
