Bryan, I would gladly meet up for a bottle share or beer but I live in Ballantyne and have 2 youngsters so I don't make it up your way much. If you ever head down my way (like maybe to visit Duckworths Bally or Vintner) shoot me a message and I would be glad to meet you for a beer.

PS: I am also from Florida (Ft Myers) and lifelong 'Nole fan. This is the year!!!

I'll be sitting at the bar and I'm wearing a Pliny the Elder Russian River shirt today. What is your name and how will I know who you are?

Had them both side by side one night and I agree with you. The Leipziger was much lighter in every regard, and while that isn't necessarily bad I personally preferred the Westbrook version.

At the Ohne Bedenken pub, people knock quite a few of these back in one sitting (a lot like one might a Hefeweizen). I didn't mind the Westbrook version, but as I continued drinking I got quickly overwhelmed. (I'm quite certain the Pepsi Challenge effect was on in full force with this one.)

Yes you are probably right. Side by side and switching between the two the Leipziger eventually gets lost because it is lighter. As I said that isn't a bad thing, and to be fair my Americanized taste buds generally prefer bolder flavors. However I must say that I can and have drank growlers of the Westbrook version before with no problems. I'll have to try the leipziger again on it's own though to really give it a fair taste.

Yea, I really started to believe in the Pepsi Challenge effect when I did a side-by-side between Sam Adams Cinderbock and Schlenkerla Urbock. First few oz.: SA actually tasted better (and, as you may know, I am a HUGE Schlenkerla fan); next few oz.: SA gets cloying, Schlenkerla begins to emerge; next few oz: Schlenkerla truly starts to shine, SA gets drainpoured.

I wish the BJCP would implement as part of their formal "education" a class on the Pepsi Challenge effect. I honestly think it would be a palate-changer for everything from evaluating/judging homebrews to how extreme U.S. craft beer has tended to become to how to better appreciate "traditional" UK, Czech, and German styles.

I was not unfortunately. Dinner plans ran late and by that time I saw tweets/check-ins and most of you guys were at Duckworth's drinking fine Bell's beers.

Going to try and swing by this evening though.
