The dollar up charge on barrel aged jackie o's offerings was the last time I bothered to stop there.

I've been to Simone's a bunch of times and never experienced any of this behavior. Rozi's is my favorite in that area though.

So you can afford $12 bottles of beer, but one extra dollar is unacceptable? Seems a bit silly to me.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a beer store owner. Do you own Simones? Haha... If he is paying $12, why would he want to pay more? Anyway, this beer store owner found out I wasn't giving him all my business. Was curious why. I told him besides not selling singles. I didn't love that his beers were all exactly .50 more. He said, "well whats .50"? First, I was like: "If I can get it for cheaper, why wouldn't I?" I told him it was better in my pocket than his. Then to prove my point, I asked that he charged me (just me) .50 less than what the competitor was charging. Making it a dollar less than his current price. I said... "What's .50 right?"(with a shit eating grin) Needless to say, his prices are back on par with everyone else. Don't up charge if you are a business. More than that, NEVER pay for it if you are a consumer!

It is the principle of a beer store raising the price to gouge the customer. We all have free will. Do as you wish with your money but unless you are the US Government keep your nose out of what I do with mine!

Even if a place were to charge .50 cents extra on a bottle, think about the math over the course of a year. If you buy three bottles a week from said store, that's $78 extra per year that you could have saved by shopping somewhere else. I'd be willing to bet if you shop at a store regularly you're probably averaging more than three bottles a week too.

Looking for something to look forward to....any word on this yet? Or on the potential Jackie O's/Wolf's Ridge coffee beer brunch?

Relax, I wasn't trying to take over your finances, just stating an opinion. If you know you can get a beer cheaper, by all means do it! I would, too. This is why I shop at many different beer stores. But if I can only find what I want for an 8% mark-up, I'd feel silly about passing on it. You're right, you can do what you want. No hard feelings. Do you also boycott Lizardville, then? (just curious)

Haha I am in no way affiliated with Simones. I often walk out of there empty-handed and there are plenty of stores I like better, but I still stop when I'm in the neighborhood just in case (after hitting other stores). I usually don't pay upcharges if I know I can avoid it, but if I'm unsure and a beer is important to me, but an extra dollar once in a while doesn't bother me in the slightest. People can spend their money however they want, who cares. I regret making that comment now (I was drinking).

PS, if you think an extra .50 or dollar is bad, stay the hell away from Portage Lakes beverage haha

Circle A has Wigsplitter and a pile of Hi-Res if anyone in the area is looking. (no mark-up too! haha)

TBH if $78 is making a substantial difference in one's bottom line at the end of the year, one should think more seriously about regularly buying any beer at $12 a pop.

Actually yes I do. Why would I pay an extra $3 for a 6 pack of 6 week old white rajah?

Oh and their was the last time I was in there...a year ago...I mentioned I had heard they had zombie dust. Burl looks right at me and tells me he has it but can't sell me any. 3 days later his sister tweets it is sold out. I call um out and they offer me hop slam. Basically telling me what I am allowed to and should buy. That has to be some of the worst tactics at customer service I have ever experienced.

I'd rather be told "no we don't have that beer" than "yeah I have it but not for you". Happened with kbs at royal park in strongville, never went back and lizardville and never went back. It's beer man. I'm not gonna suck up to someone and demean myself over it.

Fair point, but I for one would rather have the extra 6 6 packs that $78 would buy. Why throw away money and encourage the practice?

In the end, most places I buy limited, seasonal or hard to find beers are doing their homework to bring it in, so I feel good dropping the dough. Aside from maybe Market District, which is just a monstrosity that's a sort of obnoxious to go in to, they all have very limited amounts of it. Often the beers in question sell out so fast that I don't even have the time to compare prices. My beer stops are infrequent because I don't have a lot of free time certain weeks, so I guess that factors into my apathy towards price.
