$25 + fees for speedway with some espresso beans thrown in, when regular speedway is readily available everywhere for $12... Not surprising. In addition to increasing prices, they likely also produced more and the speedway variant hype has kind of died down.

Its still pretty limited for non-CA with the Proxy Cap at 1.

We have now had a Firestone Barrelworks, Lost Abbey, and an Alesmith release all not insta-sell out in the last few weeks. Maybe prices are finally starting to be a factor again.

I think some different factors are in play.

Firestone - It's feral One. Don't get me wrong, I love that beer, but Feral One last year didn't sell out tickets. The follow event, a fruited sour, sold out in seconds.

Lost Abbey - an unproven beer, that while has the collab name cred, is only being released here should raise some whale flags, but again, the last few things not named Cable Car or DDG just weren't great from them. Add in price tag and you have reasons why it didn't sell fast.

Alesmith - I just think they have a shit ton of this version since it was so easy for them to make.

Add in that there has been a plethora of releases from Smog, Monkish, Rip, Modern Times and it's also first quarter BEFORE tax time? Yeaaah, it's going to be a lot of low sales across the board.

I agree however, it's not everyday you have the opportunity for said release thus, it's possible they did have more than enough for leftovers.

Om another note, always good to see sd reaper there. was there for last growler fill & today. with this mind, sdreaper, i know you may have mentioned this in the past but, whereabouts did you get your burrito nearby? i was the dood in the blue long sleeve shirt. i belive you were there with the missus & a colleague as well as another one that met up with you guys or simply was sharing conversation. Please advise

Yup, Rigoberto's. Same little strip mall as Supernatural Sandwiches and a Sleeptrain on the corner. Distribution and Miramar Rd. almost directly across from St. Archer. I was there with the better half so we could double up on grumblers basically to help out someone else that asked for a fill that couldn't get there. The rest were all random friends and occasionally another alesmith regular.

Edit: And if you feel like rolling the dice, there is a "massage" place in the same little strip mall that is open past 10pm and has curtains covering the windows and door. =P

Wow, $25 for a non barrel aged speedway? I didn't even bother with this release as neither of the beers were appealing at all but that price comes as quite a shock!

$22 + fees, not $25, but still on the high side. Beer Geek Speedway was $25 so they've gotten that high for non-BA Speedway before, but at least that was a collab and had Kopi Luwak coffee. Taste didn't justify the price but I could understand it. $22 for HHSS is just bizarre.

Not $25 + fees, that was incorrect. But $24.20 is $25. And it's still available lol

i'd like to try it but i skipped this round. mainly because i've been to SD a bunch the over the past few months and need a break from having to drive down there. not that i don't like going down there, but sometimes it can be a chore. it's not always easy going places and drinking world class beer

That feeling when you live only a mile or so away, want a beer so you check the "On Tap" menu from the website and see BASS and viet speedway still pouring and are like meh...I can drink that at home. #spoiled

So saying that today over lunch break I had quick tasters of pb viet, and coconut+vanilla viet off cask would be triple rude? Because that cask was fantastic.

For me there is a trend. Price, driving distance, good beer but nothing I can't live without.

    1. Feral One B3 - Who cares. Good beer, but the drive and price made me veto the trip.

    2. Ad Idem - Way too expensive, another peach sour???, anything Wicked Weed is whatever.

    3. Another non-ba speedway...while usually always great beers, honestly the pretentious side of me wants the bourbon in everything now. Soooo real hard for me to justify the price, cellar space, effort to drive down to SD from L.A. for another coffee stout in a large format bottle.

Why don't they just open it up for larger allocations? I'm already making the trip id grab a few more. Price don't have me scared....

The nice thing about Alesmith sales is that the pickup window is so long that it probably won't be a dedicated trip, someone else is going to release something I'll also need to pick up in that window.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if on saturday after eventbrite event closes down for this that more bottles are available at a limit from the gift shop.

What? You mean to tell me you didn't have that on Wednesday? I had an 8 oz cask and a taster of the Pb Vietnamese while I was there and I didn't even eat until I got back to work but man was it worth it
