The older people are the less receptive to change they are, at least in my experience.

that's funny more old folks use facebook now than young or so they say. apple says they sell more stuff to old folks. old dogs may not can learn new tricks, but humans can and do. You be surprised how many older folks LOVE SNPA and dales PA, I was.

    Just because I'm almost 70, doesn't mean I can't......

    Sorry, what was the question?

My uncles refuse to spend money on beer that isn't BMC.
My father liked some Belgian beers I brought him, but he didn't like the IPAs.
My friends are all about IPAs, except for one who is anti-beer-revolution-I-only-drink-wine-pshhhhhh
The rest though are falling into the craft beer wagon 1 by 1 and every one of them likes hoppy IPAs.

Well, some of old folks did start on N German Pilsners, which were the hophead's beer of the day  . Dinkelacker in 1982 was actually quite bitter and dry- I couldn't get enough of that stuff!

The survey just indicated to me that I'm an old $#@% compared to most others on this website. (Either that or a hip old $#@%, at least in my own mind.)

The craft beer drinker timeline goes like this:

Crappy beer -> Hoppy Beer -> Barrel Aged Stouts -> Sours

Agree with this. This survey more or less shows the demographics of BA members, not what age group loves hoppy beers more. I suspect you would get the same poll results if you asked about barley wines, barrel aged stouts, belgian ales or any beer for that matter.

yea I know but in today's terms, these ipa and dipa blow away most beer hop wise. I was going for a current thing. back in the day I started a English PA was way too much hops for me at first. I got used to it.

Some of the older crowd was drinking hoppy beer when they were young.
Ballantines IPA was over 6% 60+ IBU and had hopextract added when bottled, as it had been wood aged for a year.

+1 on this. I started getting into craft beer at about age 33 and it took me two years to start to appreciate the IPAs. I think it would've taken the same amount of time if I started drinking craft at age 23.

The survey is flawed. From following these forums, it appears that there aren't many >60 y.o.s on this site so therefore, this age group is underrepresented as far as BA is concerned. Any survey would not elicit the same volume of responses from this age group so it would be appear as though fewer >60s enjoy hoppy beers. The bottom line is that surveys and statistics can be skewed whichever way someone wants them to be skewed by simply adjusting the parameters.

I'd imagine that there would some kind of schism between ages 21-35. I'm 32, and my tastes are FAR different than they were ten years ago.

Ok guys, I am fessing up. I am 57 yr old and just got into craft beers about a year ago. At first I did not like the hops too much but really fell for the brown ales, porters, and stouts. But then I had a SN Torpedo and things started to change. Now I like'm all (except pillsners which still taste like shit to me). Ha! (appoligies to all the pillsner fans)

well of course it is, I was done so NOT to ask for exact ages, as I feel that invades privacy. and no its not scientific who cares, but you got to admit it seem that most folks get on here are young. btw I started it and I am over 60.

young is relative. to me 35 is young to a 25 year old its old.:grinning:

Nice to meet another 'old-timer'. My comment was just my cynicism - misdirected as it turns out. And yes, I feel the same way [35 = young but to a 25 y.o., 35 it's old]. But I live by the phrase - you can only be young once but you can be immature forever.

Why? Simple. Technology challenged 60+s. And I'm always full of something, not always cynicism.
