Agreed. Plus they help pay the bills. Hell, we should block anyone who blocks ads on our site.

Am I blocking ads? I've never knowingly downloaded any add blockers. The only ad I ever get is the one banner at the very top, half the time it is an ad for BA. I hope this isn't what people are complaining about I hardly even notice it.

It probably is. I downloaded an ad blocker because ESPN's ads are obnoxious as hell, especially when I'm trying to be discrete about it at work

What about the smart phone apps? People are always asking for these. It seems revenue could be brought in by developing and selling Iphone, Blackberry, and Android BeerAdvocate apps with some additional functionallity built in to them.

I would be one of the people that would probably go ahead and buy the upgraded membership just to support the site, but I don't see myself using most of the additional features metioned in the original post.

I'm annoyed when I don't hover over them and I have some video or w/e opening that I have to close. I hate popups and those are essentially popups since I'm not clicking or hovering.

We turned off those particular ads days ago. I don't think they're coming back either, so all of this ad talk is a bit pointless now.

I'm 100% for not ever seeing them again on here:grinning: . They're the ones that annoyed me, otherwise you can put w/e you want there and I'll be a ok.

I am not opposed to paying for premium service but I voted "no" because the list of features were not any I would benefit from. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas regarding services I would pay for. I think I would buy a $2 iPhone app, but I don't know if that would even recoup the cost of making the app for you guys.

Would I want to? Of course not.

Would I? Seeing as how much time I am on here, and as much as a part of my life, I def would; within reason.

What price? 9.99 (10.00 or less) seems like a fair price. So the next question is, one time fee or annually?

Personally I think an app would be great for a subscription- great way to generate $$ .

Do I want paid services? No

Would I buy them if I felt excluded from trades, bifs, or forums? reluctantly, yes

it's really tough for me to vote either way on this poll.

on the one hand, i would likely pay for the upgraded membership (assumming it is reasonable) as a way of supporting the site and the community it offers (read: donation)

on the other hand, I do not feel like the additional services being discussed would be worth an investment from myself. think ESPN INsider: decent benefits and added material, but really not worth it. I am also of the thought that it may create a divide within the community and deter potential new members from becomming everyday users. basically, lots of people currently use BA as a resource, while others use it as a community. with a subscription based service, I would be very afraid of driving away some of those who use the site as a resource. and more eyeballs, more $$$; less eyeballs, well....

did you stop reading at "i would likely pay"?

I'd like to add since you mentioned revamping the apparel line, someone said in the Hunahpu thread that you guys should do shirts that come with your BA name on the back so you can wear them to releases and other people know who you are. This is an awesome idea to include in you're revamping plans IMO

I said yes, providing the price is right ($15+/-) and I can opt out and support the site another way if I want (like the mag allows you to do).

Yeah, sure I agree that if you pay to play you'll be less likely to perform any shenanigans. But...

You misread my complaint I think.

I assume you feel that the feedback is overdue because it can be a very valuable tool to deter bad trading, encourage more user interaction/time spent on the site, as well as stamp out pointless threads, comments, etc that come up concerning issues with traders.

My point is that if feedback doesn't apply to everyone then the system is inherently broken. Those who DO NOT opt into the paid feedback system will not feel any additional incentive to be a "good trader." Those who ought to be publicly labeled as a bad trader will be exempt because they did not pay to allow others to leave feedback.

In turn those who do pay will have a very large incentive to NOT trade with someone who did not pay.

The only way around this issue without making feedback free to everyone is to make all trading forums and feedback tied to the paid option - forcing anyone who wants to publicly trade on the site to also opt into the feedback system.

In short, feedback does need to come about, you guys did mention doing it several times now, but it ought to be a blanket feature that doesn't exclude anyone or divide the community in some way.

Jason and I just talked. While the initial numbers of around 30% pro-paid services are very good ... we've decided to keep BeerAdvocate.com free at this time. We'll look at other options to help generate online revenue.

    Thanks for the feedback.
