I am visiting Portland this weekend. Finally got to try Pallet Jack on tap at an establishment (been wanting to try for a long time). These two are my favorites from Oregon (honorable mention workhorse) Anyway, just curious to see what PNW's say is the better IPA.

Voted Pallet Jack. If it was Pallet Jack vs Hop a Wheelie it's possible it would be a different vote.

For my money, it's Pallet Jack over RPM by a comfortable margin.

If we switch the conversation to double IPAs, I think I'd pick Boneyard's Hop Venom over Barley Brown's Head Shake most days of the week. But I'd need a lot of research to be sure.

Co-sign. Head shake was a bit malty for me.

Pallet Jack by far in my opinion. I have never had Head Shake, but I will take Fork Lift over Hop Venom any day.

RPM is great beer, but it has become so ubiquitous around Portland that it's lost its appeal for me. Had it recently at a few establishments that aren't necessarily concerned about serving the freshest beer and it was not very good. Even at their peak, I'd still probably take PJ over RPM right now. Hop Venom and Notorious are a different story. Those are 2 of my favorite DIPA and TIPA around. Liked them better than Fork lift or Tank Slapper. I did like BB's WFO though.

Never had Pallet Jack (or, any Barley Browns), so can't vote.

    Noted for future trade opportunities.

Had some RPM a few days ago that made me remember how it's still a standout in the sea of thousands of good NW IPAs, so that got my vote.

Stopped at a local college bar a couple weeks ago with a buddy. We shared a 22 of '14 B-Bomb, and each had a 10oz pour of RPM as a sidecar. Made for a nice contrast. Being as how we had just come from a brewers night, it probably contributed my fuzzy-headedness the next morning.:grinning:

Dang. Forgot about that one. Looks like both Hop Venom and Fork Lift are pouring at Apex right now, so I might have to find a way to do a side-by-side test. For science.

Pallet Jack is my favorite IPA. Period. RPM is great, and was a favorite before Pallet Jack came into my life, but even after 4+ years of existence, RPM is consistently inconsistent. If the best batches of RPM could be brewed consistently, the choice may be a little more difficult.

The choice of a favorite between Hop Venom, TankSlapper, and Forklift is much harder, IMO.

Portlanders are lucky they can walk into so many places and walk out with a growler or crowler of either one of those beers. No three hour drives followed by an hour or two in line for them!

Pallet Jack, but it's really really close. I just find Pallet jack to be more consistent.

I can't wait for another batch of Hop-a-wheelie. I caught it at the tail end of it being around, I went waaay out of my way to go to beermongers to get it god damn, I wish I didn't wait that long to get it.

Funny, I kind of did the same thing. I saw it on a few places and for whatever reason didn't order it. When I finally did get around to try it I loved it but never saw it again.

Indeed. I could drive 2.5 hours to baker city for PJ, but not sure what else Baker city has to offer. A trip to bend would be a blast, but 5.5 hours in the car. So, I happened to make the 3.5 hour drive to Portland just to try these beers. I kid. Drove the 3.5 hours to hit the Belmont station. I kid, sorta. Regardless, I am jealous of portlanders.

Easily prefer Pallet Jack over RPM.

In terms of DIPA's, that's a completely different story. I'm huge fan of everything Boneyard and BB make when it comes to the DIPA's/TIPA's, and for me it's more of a mood thing. Sometimes I prefer Hop Venom and Notorious over anything BB makes, but sometimes nothing else will do for me when I happen to see Forklift or Head Shake on tap. Tank Slapper is very good as well, but some of the recent batches were a bit more malty than I normally like to see. Still, these are all excellent beers.
