Best/desirable beers from NY?

New York's a big state. Where are you going to?

 

Yes and no.

Barrier, Finback and Rushing Duck all do can and bottle now. Not in massive amounts but you'll be able to find their stuff in the Albany, Hudson Valley and NYC areas. New breweries have propped up. The Albany area has Common Roots (South Glens Falls), Rare Form (Troy) and Wolf Hollow (Scotia) that are all more than worth a visit.

The Hudson Valley has added more; Sloop and Bacchus are producing awesome stuff. The other HV breweries that Cavedave mentioned are all very good and worth stopping by -- except Keegan, which I find to be garbage -- and so are the NYC breweries he mentioned.
