You always seem to champion for European styles. I dig it!

Big fan of a good alt. Luckily, one of the locals, Union Craft makes a real good one. Just would like to see more.

Odds are always going to be for this because most beer styles are from Europe.:wink:
(I'm not really into the endless splitting of types.)

I'd like to see a few more commercial examples of gruit, because there are so few that I'm not even sure what I think about the style.

I only have a loose understanding of the issue, but from what I remember reading the problem stems mostly from the fact that freeze concentrating is considered distilling and would be federally regulated that way. Correct? If so, I wonder if breweries that also have licenses to distill (Ballast Point, New Holland, etc) would be able to make an eisbock and release it not as a beer, but as a distilled product. Maybe that would be prohibitively expensive though?

Call it tongue in cheek, call it what you want. There's myriad styles in every store in my radius. Yet, how many of them offer world-class IPA, or even other styles for that matter? I love a stellar beer; heck, Hunter breaks code on the DL occasionally to enjoy other stalwarts. That said, back to my beloved IPA. EVERYONE is making them due to popularity, but so many of them are just average. Brewers, hear my plea... cook up some of that next level stuff and I assure you that I'll line your pockets with dead presidents to show my appreciation.

To answer the question: My favorite lesser seen style is the 'world-class' IPA. Yes, I'm stretching my answer.

Yeah- smoked porters are one of my favorites, and just when I have a regular one it seems to go by the wayside- either by the store or by the brewery. I need some regular choices!

As to Rauchbiers, well, as long as I have Schlenkerla I'm more than happy.

OK, I will bite. Are you having difficulties locating 'world-class' IPAs to buy?

    Cheers!

That wasn't my point. The market is saturated with average offerings. Maybe I'm speaking for myself, but if it's me, I want to taste the competition. I'm not going to throw some bullshit out there, unless I can trump their offering.

In broad, philosophical terms, you may just need to embrace the fact that not everybody agrees on what is bullshit and what is not.

@denver10: Make your own! I get 'em here, but I also make kickass ones.
