    Drink for Taproot Fundraiser
    Mar 9 2016 - 11:30am
Taproot Theatre needs our help! Our beloved neighborhood icon is in a tight spot after some unforeseen adversity related to their new construction project. The Naked City loves Taproot, so we brewed them a Pale Ale! To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Taproot, 100% of the proceeds from all pints of Taproot Pale Ale sold on Wednesday, March 9, will go directly to benefit Taproot Theatre’s emergency fund. Additional donations are welcome! More details to be announced soon.
Here's to 40 more years for Greenwood's own Taproot Theatre!

Be there tomorrow and have a pint

Thanks for posting this. It's a nice pairing of a fine brewpub and a fine theater company. I don't live in Greenwood, but have been to both Taproot and Naked City quite a few times. Just saw Taproot's excellent production of Silent Sky. Yes, please give them your support!

Quick C&P from a fresh FB post by NC:

Our fundraiser for the Taproot Theater that was scheduled for this evening will be postponed until tomorrow. It will now be a neighborhood fundraiser to assist all businesses and residents affected by the Greenwood explosion. We brewed a special beer originally called Taproot Golden Ale. That beer will be called Greenwood Phoenix Golden. Because, once again, Greenwood will rise from the ashes! All day tomorrow, 11:30 - Close, 100% of the profits from this beer will go to those affected. Please come out and help our neighbors in need.

If your in the area, go buy a pint. And, I know that at least one BA, @TheBungyo , lives in the neighborhood. Ya doing all right buddy?

It's nice that Naked City is responding to the neighborhood crisis, but doesn't that mean Taproot's fundraising just got the rug pulled out from underneath them? Are they no longer in "a tight spot" because of the gas leak?

I was thinking the same thing. I understand the sentiment for the community, but that's kinda a punch to the gut for Taproot.

I took "tight spot" to mean "not on life support, can get by for now". Maybe reschedule their fund raiser for a later date?

Yes, I live directly behind Naked City and the blast woke both me and my girlfriend. I thought someone was breaking into the apartment (I was dead asleep when the the blast occurred) and my girlfriend thought it was an earthquake. We didn't actually find out what happened until much later, around 6AM, when my girlfriend went to the gym.

Anyway, I hadn't planned on drinking any beer tomorrow ( I generally only drink beer on the weekends) but now I almost feel obligated to go support the community the hard way---by drinking.

I'm also adhering to the "no drinking during the work week," but I'm thinking I'll break that rule for Greenwood.

Saw Chuck's just posted this: We at Chuck's are glad no one was seriously hurt in the explosion here in Greenwood. If you work at any of the affected businesses or are an emergency response personnel, come by Chuck's and have a beer on us. You deserve it.
I'd love it if they did a benefit tomorrow since they're doing a Melvin night.

Naked City is of course doing the right thing by broadening the net of those whom they are helping. There are a lot of folks in Greenwood whose business or personal lives just took a hit.

But if you have a thing for small theater companies (which I do), then you can always toss Taproot a few bucks via their donation page here:

NC just posted a pic on FB. Place has been packed since opening. Will probably get even busier after work hours.

Chucks has a Monday benefit happening: "We at Chuck's are so grateful for the community that we are a part of. When we heard about the devistation that befell our neighbors we knew we needed to do something to help. That's why on Monday, March 14th, we will be raising funds for the Phinney Neighborhood Association. 100% of draft sales (draft pours and growler fills) will be donated to PNA's Greenwood Relief Fund! Come out, have a beer, and help our neighbors get back on their feet!"
