Avery Raja is back in town. One of my fav mass produced DIPAs from last year. Clean, Crisp, Fruity, well balanced.

 

So Shorewood Liquor and Waconia Brewing are teaming up on a barrel aged RIS and we should go search it out due to how "insane" the barrel was?

Forgive me for being a noob @craigerss02 , but what about a barrel makes it especially better or worse than other barrels?

 

I will not be buying any Avery stouts based on the outrageous prices. Highway robbery. IDGAF how good they are.

 

Apparently some people thought it was worth it. Sold out already, but I did snag a 4 pack of Vanilla Chai, so it all worked out.

 

Mingo I'd be happy to correct your price to what is stated on the shelf if there's ever a discrepancy!

 

Outrageous. But Tweak is the one of the series that IS that good.

 

oh not a problem. thanks for the response. and i could be wrong, but fairly certain it said $12.99. i didnt notice until i bought the same thing (2 Tweak) at Byerlys shortly after for $12.99 as well and it was a few bucks cheaper.

 

The classic "does the barrel make the beer" debate. Here are a couple of fun threads that dig into a bit: thread #1, thread #2. Either way, I hope the collaboration is even more insane than the barrel it's coming out of. I look forward to the update and hope to get taste.

I would say, as a beer and bourbon enthusiast, the barrel makes a big difference...but the beer must be able to hold up to the barrel. A crappy beer in a Pappy barrel is still crappy. A Darkness in a crappy barrel is still Darkness. Mashbill, age, distillery, viscosity and style of beer are all factors. Most brewers know little about whiskey...much like most distillers know little about beer production. Too much time in a barrel can ruin it, while too little may not change it's flavor whatsoever. This is why I love beer!

they undersold it. shelf said $21.99 but iguess they had been selling them for $17.99. they had two left when i was there but held off on selling them until they fixed the price.

 

Was hoping to nab one of these but since I have a job, it looks like I'm out of luck. Oh well, best not to add to that pile of beer in the basement anyways.
