Haven't seen Evil Twin mentioned, but they are definitely priced on the high side in my area.

Yeah im in the same boat with the Eclipse beers. They always look so good, but I can never justify it when I'm in the store with tons of other stuff already picked out too.

I'm also worried that I will like it too much, and I will end up dropping $30 on eclipse stouts way too often.

I really enjoy some Ballast Point stuff, but would agree they are a little pricey. I mean with their huge new production brewery, recent sale to the big guys, and amount of quantity you'd think they'd come down in price. Lagunitas does a great job, and Stone does pretty good.

Like others before me, I too am going with Ballast Point. Don't get me wrong BP, I enjoy your beers, but there is a lot of comparable if not better options at a more favorable price.

I'm seeing a lot of Mikkeller hate, so ill go on record saying I appreciate what they do and will continue to buy and support their product.

Where I live, Eclipse is cheaper or on par with BA Narwhal and Avery Stouts in terms of price so my perspective is a touch different. I will say though, there are better and cheaper options out there for BA stouts, including GI BCBS, many locals and some nice PNW options. I pick up a few Eclipse variants a year just for variety.

I agree with you. Ballast Point 6-packs are $14.99 in my area, while any 6-pack from a comparable brewery is 9.99-11.99. I bought some Ballast Point to try it out, but because of their price gouging, I'll never again buy more than a single of their stuff.

Well, I paid $48 retail for a bottle of De Struise Black Damnation XII, which is the most expensive beer I've ever bought (although I've only been a "beer geek" for about a year now). I haven't had that many stouts and really haven't explored the style that much yet, but this is easily the best stout that I have ever had...absolutely delicious. However, I certainly don't think that it's worth this much, I think somewhere along the lines of $30-35 would be more reasonable.

Let's be honest, MOST craft beers are over-priced. Ask your local bottle shop owner what his mark up is on craft beer, it's double to triple the mark up of macro domestics. And a lot of craft breweries(if you actually research the brew) use cheap 2 row barley and try to keep their ingredient costs low making quality sacrifices for financial reasons. As well as the small inefficient production and usually a very inefficient distribution method drive the price up without increasing the quality of the liquid. Although, all the above is what makes a micro brew so special and unique. They allow us to experience new flavors we would never experience from a macro brew. And for that experience we are willing to pay "too much" for it, and I'm certainly okay with that. Drink local, cheers!

I think you are conflating some terminology here. More expensive != overpriced. When you produce a superior product, you can charge a premium price (regardless of cost of production). If Bud and Coors were suddenly $9.99 a 6-pack, we'd suddenly have a lot more craft beer drinkers, because people won't pay a premium price for an inferior product. When we're talking about overpriced beers or breweries, we are talking about charging premium prices (over and above the normal craft beer premium) for products that are necessarily superior.

Well just dropped $26 after tax for "So Happens it's Tuesday" from the Bruery yesterday... we'll see but usually I am skeptical to pull the trigger on the high priced Bruery beers or Cascade stuff hovering around $30. I'm a big bruery fan but the prices can be absurd. It's not monopoly money folks. haha
