If you're going to do that, just sell 1 scratch ticket for $15 and you reveal a 1, 2, or a 3. I'm not opposed I guess, but I'd like to see a system where they get tickets into more hands, even if the odds drop. I still think they should tie the tickets to food sales. i.e. you can buy a $2 ticket with every $25 you spend starting on December 1st or whatever by bringing your receipt to the gift shop. Reward the active customers.

A lot of the tickets look like they were pre scratched. If you scratched in the lower right hand side of the circle, you could determine if it was a winner or a looser without revealing the entire picture. Lots of people really upset that they had a 5 tickets that looked pre scratched, and zero winners in a stack of 15. Apologists are going to say it's a coincidence, but some of the pictures are pretty damning. 6 tickets, all with scratches in the same location, and no one complaining about scratches in other places.

I can say, none of mine looked prescratched, my friend said he thought some of his were but didnt think twice about it until the next day when he read about it online.

I'm 95% positive all mine were prescratched (couple dozen)...I totally got suckered. Shame on me and the seller. -1000 Beer Karma points for him...if he's even a "BA."

I was in a group of two people that bought 30 tickets (the limit). We were lucky enough to score two winners, but yeah ALL of the non-winners looked exactly like that pic above, small pre-scratch... never even thought about it until now... shameful

It looks like the seller of the tickets scratched to make sure they were not all winners or something like that.

And now you see a bunch of tickets up on the bay for $50ish each. Wonder if someone pocketed a bunch and now they are going to make a nice little profit. Shameful, but still sounds like a lot of people won bottles, and money went to charity.

I'm glad $30,000 went to charity, but that whole situation sucks.

Leave it to a few thieves to ruin it for some. Again, shame on me for being naive on this. I love trading beer with fellow BAs, but unscratched KtG tickets will never happen again unless I or my sister buy them at the brewery. But hey...I am on the right side of the grass! Cheers to those who won!

I am officially convinced never to purchase scratch tickets from randos. This is fcked up.

It would be interesting to see more pictures. The markings are pretty consistent on those, so it is possible that it was a production machine nicking them.

What did Portsmouth have to say to the people who complained about it?

I don't think it was intentional, but it's pretty egregious. From a consumer standpoint it's inexcusable and does not instill much consumer trust in the brewery's operations.

    Pretty much.

    [conspiracy theory]
Or maybe this was all part of their plan so that people who buy the tickets off eBay get screwed and nobody will purchase tickets from eBay next year, thus eliminating the eBay contingency from their KTG release.

I'd like to know why they don't just do something like what Stone did for the QM Coffee Porter thing. Physical tickets seems so unnecessary.

Also, it's entirely possible that the tickets were really random. You'd expect to see a certain number "one dude wins a lot" and "lots of dudes win nothing" with a truly random process. I think, however, that you don't really want this process to be truly random.

I don't mind true random as opposed to scientific random, though I agree the latter might be preferred. There should be more transparency of the process either way.

I don't think people would be as upset if there weren't blatant manufacturing differences between winners and losers. Both issues combined makes for a complete circus.

this sucks for the people involved if there really was pre-scratching going on... hopefully the brewery learns from this fiasco and comes up with a better way of holding their lottery for KtG...
