Howdy Folks! The missus and I are going to Tyler, then Austin (for 2-3 days), then back to Tyler. As such, and doing some research, I've concluded two things. 1. Visit Jester King 2. Visit WhichCraft Who knows anything about Tyler? Any breweries or places to eat/drink there? Who knows anything about Austin? Any other breweries or places to eat/drink there? Thank Jeebus we will not be in Austin during SXSW.
lots of great breweries to visit in Austin. If you have time: Hops and Grain, Austin Beerworks, Live Oak all worth a visit in addition to Jester King.
Thanks, jrstar96! How about places to eat (that have a good beer selection). Also, you have any info on Tyler?
On site food at Jester King (pizza) and Hops and Grain (burgers) are worth stopping at. Live Oak and ABW also have onsite food, but I have never had so can't vouch for it. Some bars with worthwhile food and good beer selection in austin: The Whip In, The Brass Tap, hopfields. Man this list could go on and on. Would also recommend BBQ while in Austin, and tacos. For BBQ without a huge line, try Freedmans (also great bourbon selection) or Stiles Switch. Or wait in line at Franklins, La BBQ, or Micklewaits. In Tyler, go to Stanleys BBQ (honestly only thing I have ever had in Tyler). True Vine Brewery I think is the only brewery in Tyler. They have a nice atmosphere
I did. Even visited the webpage you developed (very informative!). But, there's nothing wrong with seeking other people's opinions.
Came here to recommend Stanley's. It's incredible. OP -- If you're willing to make the drive, I would go to Cedar Creek Brewery. Otherwise, True Vine is indeed the only brewery in Tyler.
This is interesting to me. Its become popular to hate on SXSW, but I don't really get it... a bunch of people getting together basically to enjoy music and party. To each their own I guess.
It hasn't *become* popular to hate on SXSW. Much of the city has always hated huge events. People hate on every other event as well. If your goal is to come into town to visit some breweries, then it seems normal to want to avoid one of the largest events the city has. Nobody's hating on the people attending. And I say this as someone who's lived here quite a while and who's been at least 10 times.
In my opinion, the focus has shifted greatly from the arts in favor of business/marketing. It's a farce compared to what the experience was like before the tech explosion.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't implying hate or any ill will. I have friends who attended and performed throughout the years. It's just that if I can avoid a large influx of people/visitors for multiple days, I will.
Tyler: For craft taps the two best places are Juls and Rose City Draft House. Juls is more restaurant oriented but has about 20 nice taps. Rose City has about 50 taps and is more of a beer bar. Of course there's old standby BJ's too. And like the guys above said go to Stanley's BBQ.
I don't want to overhype it, but I found Pieous pastrami to be as close to a life-altering event as food can be. Careful about ordering beer there. I swear I paid $9 for a pint of Sculpin.
Awesome suggestions, everyone. Being the glutton that I am, I won't find it difficult to try most (if not all) of these joints. Thanks!
