Noticed these special beer packages cropping up?

Here’s a local question, since some of you have been aching for one (but who knows, it may end up throwing up ideas for visitors, too)… You’ve seen ‘em in the grocery (especially Delhaize): The beer sommelier tasting packages. The food-pairing kits (“Dinner with Beers - Gibier” with a selection of brews to match with game, for example.) The Chimay beer-and-cheese box (no actual cheese, a book, not like it’s hard to find their cheese a few aisles over, but not included for your eye-watering 40 euros). Exploratory series like the 75cls (who made them anyway?) to cross-compare French vs American vs Hungarian oak. The Special Yeast collection with the fruity-abbey vs Brett vs German vs English styles.

I’d make a joke about the stores just filling in empty space where the Orval used to be, but 1. too soon, not funny and 2. they’re usually up on the high shelves behind the maybe-someday-I’ll-spring-for-it Trignac and the like.

My question is, anyone tried any of these, and have any reports back? Beer quality, usefulness of whatever else is in the package for information (like sourcing of food for pairing)? Done of the special series comparisons (how many people would you need crack three or four of those 75cls for a horizontal tasting)? Any feedback?

I received the beer sommelier package for christmas. The IPA and dark were decent/average, blonde and triple kinda sucked. The glassware included doesn't even look like a beer glass. Overall a pretty disappointing box. Was told previous releases of beer sommelier were much better. Hope so for his shake.

What about other materials in the box? This is useful intel, thanks. I would normally make my own gift pack if I wanted to bring someone something, but it would be good to know...
