Didn't say they would care about what variants are left but they will need to keep track of them throughout the day to let the people coming through the line know what variants are left to choose from. Also, I think the discussion about the variants being FCFS is a cause for concern in the sense that it could cause some major line issues. Like I said before in one of my posts, I have group C and could give 2 fucks what variant I get. I just don't want the line to be a complete disaster with people trying to be at the front of the line for their group and possibly even mixed in with the group previous to their own (beginning of group B mixing with end of group A, beginning of group C mixing with end of group B so on and so on).

You guys are taking this way too seriously. The lines were just fine last year, where you had to wait for people to scratch off their ticket and they had to exchange cash for their dark lord. This year they are simplifying it further by removing the need to pull our your wallet, exchange cash, make change, wait for people to scratch off their ticket, wait for people to exchange cash a second time for their variant. There is no way letting people pick their variant is going to somehow cause a huge line debacle. When one runs out they just yell that it's out and cross if off the list of variants.

Every year Group A gets the best pick of variants, and the late groups have to chose what's left. This is why Group A sells out so fast... but people aren't going to be able to sneak into earlier groups. Yes people will start lining up to be at the front of Group B or C, but if you don't care, just wait an hour for the line to thin... then go through.

I remember 2 years about I was C and I went through the line in 10 minutes. I was pretty impressed in comparison to the 3 years prior to that I had gone. I wasn't there last year so I can't comment on that.

Man no shit, I agree I was one of those suckas who paid 200.00 just for the DL itself the fact that I am getting a shot at a variant is nice indeed but truthfully for the opportunity to go out there and hangout with other beer geeks and sharing out stuff with one another is more than enough to make the trip worthwhile from me even if I wasn't on group A.

Id rather have 3F keep the variant list/count tight lipped until the day off release to avoid any of these shennanigans of years past.

Is this your first DLD? There will be absolutely NO advance notice of what variants are left; that's not how 3 Floyds does things. Here's how it will go - you get to the point where you can pick a variant, and there will be a chalk board or whatever of whatever is left. You pick one, you walk out. That's it.

Plus, as was mentioned, with no need to exchange cash or dicker about how many DL you want, it's going to be a done deal. And, the line control was pretty good the last couple of years - if you weren't an A, you weren't getting in that line. Not saying that a line won't form in advance for Group B / C / D / E, (and I think there was last year) just because some guys want a better selection, but there won't be any B tickets in the A line; I'm confident of that.

Everyone is overthinking this thing, is all I'm saying.

This will be my 5th DLD and I'm very aware how FFF operates and runs things. I agree with you about them having a chalkboard or some kind of sign at the point where you pick your variant (my wording about them letting people in line know was off, my bad). Also, I'm glad you're confident that there won't be people with B tix in the A line and so on, but I'm not confident in that at all. Unfortunately, we're at a point in the craft beer scene, and have been for a while, where people try and scam/manipulate the system when certain rules are put into place. It happens every year at DLD in some capacity and if you don't think it won't happen this year than you're just lying to yourself. Trust me, I hope I'm wrong but for now I guess we'll agree to disagree.

I know that last year, there were a couple people from the next group who lined up behind us and went through. But just before you were able to enter the facility, they were stopped and asked to step to the side. I don't know what happened to them, but they certainly weren't able to go in and get their bottles before their group was called. However, I guess that means they ended up at the head of the line of the next group, which sucks for all the people who were waiting in that massive line outside the gate; but that's just my speculation.

I e-mailed the Dark Lord Info people to ask about variants distribution. Specifically, first come first served vs. randomized. Here was their response.

"There are a number of factors that go into the decision on how the variants will be distributed, and it is much bigger than considering just the distribution of variants. The overall operation and efficiency of the entire festival has to be taken into consideration. No matter what method is used, there will always be people who want it done another way, sometimes more vocally than others. Distributing the variants first come, first served is the method the event team believes will work the best based on all of the factors that need to be considered."

So, basically, we can't please everyone and that's just how we do things. Which is fine. I just wanted everyone to know that seems to be the official, not budging stance.

I think it's as reasonable and any. If efficiency the day of DLD was a consideration, they'd have 5-packs pre-filled and just hand one to each customer, but they can probably make more people happy by first come, first served. Our group has 6 people in groups B, D & E. I'm in B, but it will be interesting to see what the choices are by D and E.

I'm good with pretty much anything other than chili peppers or odd/strong flavors. VB, BB, coffee, cognac all sound tasty to me.

All this talk about which variants will make us happiest... I'll be happy if by the end of the day I don't mistake my variant for water and chug it down at the end of the night

If Founders thought it was okay to make hot sauce KBS.....FFF doing a DL variant similar in nature sure sounds plausible, doesn't it?

This is exactly what I was thinking, so maybe it's not such a joke. Then again...Founders should have thought better of it!

That hot sauce BA KBS was so bad I gave it away to a guy who decided to chug it and almost puked haha...... That was worth it...... However, I think 3 Floyd's is smart enough to just age with chilies when brewing this sort of beer.
