Just a shame that people like the person tweeting here were forced to buy those $200 tickets once they found out they were in Group E.

    Wait...

I guess I don't really understand the logic behind clamoring for randomization. If you concede that the eTix group assignment process was essentially random given the huge mass of people simultaneously trying to purchase tickets, then the randomization of variants has already been done. If you dispute that the eTix process was random and instead think it truly was FCFS, then you must accept that you had a chance at Group A tickets and didn't take advantage.

For many ITT, I think it's probably better that the disappointment of missing out on Group A/BVDL happened now rather than at some day-of randomization process as it seems like it would've put a damper on the entire day, which is too bad.

Anyway, I'll hang up and listen.

In line now for group A, will definitely be getting BVDL.

For all those setting up pre trades and planning on picking up BVDL, what will you do when you see a PVW varient?

I'll preface this by saying I'm not in A (nor B) and could not care any less what variant I get. Anything I get will be consumed anyway. However, I do appreciate a fair system and cannot tolerate asshats who try to game the system, cut lines, etc.

Your above statement is not accurate because if you assume 2000 people in each group (last year's attendance was ~12k with ~4k GA so ballpark possibly), it will depend where in line one is in Group A, which itself will not be random. Sure if every variant has 2000 bottles or more but I highly doubt this is the case if FFF are mentioning about 10 variants. And sure enough it's usually lines as to when all the 'fun' comes relating to beer releases.

I'm especially curious as to how they will handle people in later groups who line up in earlier groups as I believe this to be one possible flaw with the system (along with line cutters within their own group). If they tell 'em to get their asses out of line and get to the back of the line, I'm happy. If they let them through or have them stand by the side until their group comes up, well then that's not really fair imo. Yeah people will say it wouldn't be rampant if it were to occur but any cheater is one too many in my book.

Certainly a fair point, but I think you must admit that the motivation ITT for suggesting a randomization scheme is a result of missing out on Group A tickets. Even in the scenario you outline, having a Group A ticket gives you the opportunity to get any variant that you want. Whether or not you want to arrive hours early to ensure you receive your top choice is entirely up to you, but the randomization has already served its purpose.

Last year they checked your ticket as you got in line for bottles. If your group had not started yet then there was a separate place to wait for your groups start time. so they did not let B get in line with A and then stop them at buying the bottles, they were stopped right at the gates to the bottle line

yr right. If you buy something, you can't criticize anything about it. DLD is always perfect.

I suggested randomizing the variants and as mentioned, I'm not motivated because I'm not in Group A. My motivation is to make the process fair and at the same time counter the line shenanigans I'm expecting to occur. Just like they seemingly occur at every other beer release.

I think I've got a right to be a bit unsettled that I was on my computer before my buddy and he ended up with Group A and I ended up in Group E. I mean shoot, look at the guy who sat in a queue for a week only to end up with "sorry, no tickets are left." Yeah, I picked E because it was the only thing left by the time all my buddies got in to groups before me.

It really isn't a dark lord thread without people completly overreacting about something stupid. A few years ago the first time that names were on the tickets people freaked out. Now three Floyd's announces something that was always the case, and common knowledge, the last 5 years - variants are first come first serve - and all they do is bitch.

No worries, I was just thinking that you didn't "choose" Group A, you got lucky and hit the lottery and "won" Group A. In the last four years, I've gotten shut out (but scored one at the local ticket sale fortunately), Group A, Group E, and Group E, in order, and each time I was just trying to get tickets. I prefer Group A, but I'm happy with E.

Your comment is fine, except there really is no choice.

But I chose Group A, and that is what I got. I didn't choose "Best Available."
