I am traveling to Allen, TX for the first time for work, was looking for a few spots to hopefully hit if I get a few hours. Looking for a decent bar or brewery that has some good local options that I don't see in Ohio. I found kellysatthevillage.com while searching close by where I am staying. Anything else in that area? Thanks.
Friend of mine said Brass Tap is pretty good up there in Allen. You can find its beer selection online. It contains many of the unique local beers... Yellow Rose, Temptress, Karbach, Community, and Peticolas. Nine Band is a brewery in Allen but I have only had a taster of their Pale Ale. Best breweries are south of Allen.
You should try to visit TUPPS Brewery if you get a chance. It's about a 15 min drive North to McKinney. Very cool location, and McKinney is a cool little town. Just check their website to make sure they're open. Click the 'Contact' tab for hours: http://tuppsbrewery.com/
Kelly's and Brass Tap are your best options, you could take a drive 20-30 min west and hit Taps and Caps as well.
I didn't get too far on my trip being tied up with conferences and work events and no car, but I did hit Kelly's most every night since it was two feet from my hotel. Their staff was great, but most beers were average at best. The list was hard to read on the wall and they don't do flights. I was able to get Nine Band beers at various places. I was hoping their pale ale would be great, but I ended up liking the Cactus Cat Kölsch the most. Same goes for Deep Ellum Brewing, tried a Cherry Chocolate Double Brown Stout and it was average. Best local beers I had while visiting were Mosaic IPA and Barrel-Aged Legion by Community Beer Company.
Sounds about right to me. Glad you enjoyed Community, though. Not liking BA Legion would've been fightin' words
