While vacationing on the Cape I had my first Menemsha Creek Pale Ale brewed by Offshore Brewing on Martha's Vineyard. It is an awesome beer and am sad I only have one more bottle to last until next Summer. I might be crazy but I swear I can actually taste the ocean in this beer, makes me think there is a whiff of saltwater in it. Anyone else have this experience with this beer or any other beer where they felt a faint hint of saltwater in the brew? I find the taste beguiling and if I can find it in other beers would love to try them.
Came here to say Gose. Check out Bayerischer Bahnhof Leipziger Gose, excellent example. Bruery Salt of the Earth, not so much.
I thought I tasted this in Sculpin the first time I tried it. I was happy about it. It gave a unique aspect to it.
I've vacationed on the Cape many times in the past and I can tell you that everything tastes like the ocean. Food, beer, whiskey, ice cream. Were you staying near the ocean; did you drink the beer near the ocean. Your scent is a powerful influence on your taste. Take the bottle home, put it in the fridge and wait 2 weeks to open it. Then decide whether it was your surroundings or the beer.
